Passed my first Clep! It certainly is addicting! - CourtneyBrooke - 02-03-2012

Quick background: I'm a homeschooling mother of 4. While looking ahead to my daughter's high school years, I learned about CLEP and realized I could use it to finish my own degree (I took a 15-year break from college to have kids! Smile )

Thanks to great info on this site, I went into my first test this morning feeling confident. I took A&I Lit, which I read was supposed to be easy, and scored 77 with 36 minutes left over!

My thoughts on the test: The only prep work I did was borrow the REA book from the library and take both practice exams. I scored much lower- 62/63 on those- so I was surprised that the actual test score was higher, but I definitely felt like the actual test was easier than the REA tests. So easy that I felt like I was cheating to walk away with 6 credits.

Now I have to decide what to take next...

Thanks to all who contribute here to help others through the process!

Congrats on your pass!:hurray: And kudos to you for deciding to get back into college after 15 years. My mom quit college to have kids too, I really hope that she will go back once we (six kids in all) move out. But hey if she does she does. I'm just excited to see other moms going back to college.
Good luck on future tests!

Congratulations on a great score and a great decision. I quit college for many reasons and then had kids, so I had excuses not to go back or to quit again. Finally when my youngest was a Junior in High School I found CLEP's and went back. I only planned on getting my AA and I did that (Graduated the same day my son Graduated High School). Now I have the AA and a BA and I am working on a second AAS and a second BA. I just may go for that MAT too.

It is addicting and good for the brain. Keep up the great work and be glad it was only a 15 year break. From my first college class to my BA took 38 years.:toetap:

I sent you a pm.
I got my start here EXACTLY the same way you did- doing homework for my then soon-to-be highschool homeschooler. Smile I took my first CLEP in 2006 when I didn't know a credit from a cracker.

The rest of the tests are very different from that one. You will have to read the REA book and do the practice tests to learn the material.
Which degree are you planning on completing?
Micro and macroeconomics are always a good choice for social science or gen ed credits because they are required for any business degree.
As an adult, US History I&II will not be that hard for you to brush up on and finish. The same goes for American Government.
I hear intro to sociology is super easy and I know that intro to business is easy once you have finished all of your business core classes.

CLEP marketing is pretty easy. I studied for 2 days before taking that one.
