Hello,

I'm considering going for a second bachelor's from Thomas Edison. Their BA in Natural Science/Mathematics looks interesting. However, finding sufficient upper-level credit options that cost less than $100 a credit hour is interesting.

Here's what I've come up with:
  • DSST Management Information Systems (CIS-301-DE)
  • TECEP Network Technology (CMP-354-TE)

Several 200-level options exist, like StraighterLine's Calculus II course or JavaOnline.org's advanced programming classes. However, 300+ level are hard to come by.

Any ideas on additional 300+ level options--either tests or inexpensive courses?

Sincerely,
Ben

For under $100/cr? I'll be watching this thread!

Under 100 a credit hour is a very tall order, but ask an advisor if Microbiology from New Mexico Junior College is good for UL credit (it's a 4 credit class ar around 81 per credit hour).

Not quite under 100, but not too far above it are Ohio University's Calculus IV and Differential Equations courses.

EDIT: I forgot to mention looking into the ECE Pathophysiology exam.

Always verify any of these potential options as UL credit before registering for them.

If money is tight, I would consider doing one of the inexpensive new mexico masters degrees instead. I have a second degree in nat sci but it cost me some money to take those final 9 credits at TESC.

Depending on where you live, Pensacola State College is an option. Some of their online offered maths and sciences should transfer in at 300+ level pending adviser review. Here is their general list of online courses (ignore the ones at the bottom marked "H" unless you do live nearby). https://www.pensacolastate.edu/elearning/#courses Not all the courses are offered each term, and not all the online courses offered are in that list (check the actual term schedule for all). Summer semester listing will post the in the course schedule the first week of April.

Florida residents -- $98.05/cr
Alabama residents -- $99.05/cr
Out of State residents -- $369.58/cr (ouch)

A couple of options:

AZ Western lists out of state as only $80 a credit hour. Regional accred NCA
AWC Tuition and Fees Schedule

Univ of Idaho. Regional accred NWCCU. Is right at $100 an hour +$25 fee, so 3 credit classes are $325 for 100-400 level, and only $140hr +$25 for 500+ level

Exciting for other subjects, but there are no 300/400 level science/maths that I can find at either school?

I've looked at quite a few schools for mathematics courses, there just isn't much at that price range...let alone upper level. The simple fact is, Maths & Sciences are highly technical courses, and there just isn't much in the way of upper level offerings without enrolling somewhere. There are, however, courses available to meet this degree requirement, but because there are so few offerings, they're not usually cheap.

LSU has courses that are around $120/cred
BYU is around $153/cred
UofWy is $109/cred

Each of those schools have a couple of UL courses that will count to the degree.

In some cases it's probably easier just to enroll somewhere and complete a residency requirement - ie SUNY ESC is $160/cred or so and requires 1 year (8 courses x4hrs) on-site if cost is your primary issue.

As far as UL Nat Sci & Math go, these schools would mostly be offering math courses such as Probability & Statistics at LSU.

ESC has a great selection of biology courses in addition to math (including Real Analysis and History of Mathematics), but I think their tuition is now over $200 per credit hour.
