I admire your dedication and willingness. It takes a lot of effort for you to come to this country and try to learn my language, and I salute you for that.

To be honest though, given the way your post is written, I would have to say no, at this time you are not ready for the College Composition CLEP. You must write two separate essays as part of the test, typically in 5x5 format (5 paragraphs of 5 sentences each), and I believe this is what would hurt you. Simple mistakes are allowed, but extensive simple mistakes show a lack of understanding of the rules. This is NOT an insult to you, because I would have the SAME problem if I were to begin learning to write your language. But the readers will grade your essay according to rules.

Review the official CLEP study guide for the College Composition CLEP test. It has 50 questions that are very close to the type of questions you will see on the actual test. Also, on page 31 are the scoring rules used.

Is three months enough time? Maybe. I would say "definitely" for a native speaker, but I don't know that I would say that for myself learning another language, so I hesitate to give you that advice. However, I do believe that if you really focus on studying the grammar you will be much better in three months than you are now, and perhaps you will be ready to test. The only way to find out is to do it!

Good luck, and please keep asking questions here! Smile

Edit:

From reading your post above, I think you should start by focusing on sentence structure, capitalization, and punctuation. And learn about run-on sentences. Smile

dcan is right, but it is not always easy to hear things like that. Many of us do not use our best writing skills when writing here so don't use us as an example. Personally I could not even learn to speak a new language no less read and write it in a short time. You are making excellent progress. I do not teach Language arts (what most schools call Reading, writing, spelling & grammar) but if I did I think the below links would be helpful.

Jasmine,

In your circumstance I would recommend something with more structure. I would consider a self paced course with an instructor to help you quickly develop the needed skills. BYU independent study came to mind. There are some free courses at the bottom of this page that might help get you started. BYU Independent Study - Free Online Courses

Moving forward consider English 101/102 in a self paced but instructed environment. Not as quick as passing the CLEP, but can be done as fast as you can work toward your goal. Consider BYU both High School and then College courses BYU Independent Study - Online Courses or something from CSU Pueblo Colorado State University-Pueblo > English

Look around for an online self paced remedial course in English. Listen to English music/pod casts/movies/etc... Read as much as you can in conversational and academic English, such as the Wall Street Journal, online English websites, etc... Practice with someone who can properly advise you in how you are doing.

I am certain that you speak/write English far better than I can converse in your native tongue! You can do this, just have to commit to it fully.

Good Luck,
Reb

Amazon.com can do this one! Smile

This looks like a good start: http://www.amazon.com/Read-Write-Interactive-Non-Native-Speakers/dp/0070237212/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1326469311&sr=1-1

What is your native tongue? My guess is India/Pakistan.....am I close? Smile I'm probably way off...just curious.
