Second Degree :AAS in Environmental Safety ans Security Technology Question - emichele20 - 11-21-2011 Hello Everyone, I am thinking about getting a second associates in ESS at TESC and I have a few questions. I received my ASBA from TESC on 9/2011. I am currently completing the requirements for the BSBA and will be finished on 2/2012. I have completed 9 new credits from PF, 6 new credits from TESC from term 9/2011, and will complete another 6 credits in 12/2011. I want to know if the credits that I have earned which are definitely more than 12 can be applied to the Free Elective Area in the AAS in ESS degree at TESC? If so would that make me eligible for this degree as it is in a different area and I would have met the 12 credit requirement for 2nd associate degree. I would really like to get this degree so that I will show that I actually used my FEMA credits towards something and I did not just use them for freebies. It would allow my transcript and my resume to be more complete. If I can get this second associates degree my plan is to graduate with it and my BSBA together. Any info on how this process works would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Second Degree :AAS in Environmental Safety ans Security Technology Question - mrs.b - 11-21-2011 I wanted to do something very similar. I have completed (but not yet submitted for graduation for) an ASBA, and am on my way to completion of two BSBAs. I asked Advising and was told that all I had to do was submit for graduation for the ASBA, and after the ASBA was conferred, I could work on this ASAST while I complete the BSBAs. "Great," I thought, "just what I was hoping to hear." Just to be completely certain, though, I emailed the Registrar since they are the ones that process graduation and was told it does not work like that. According to them, I had to graduate with the ASBA and both BSBAs, then I could come back for a different area of study after those prior and in-progress degrees were conferred. It's somewhat dependent on who you ask, but since the Registrar handles graduation, I'm inclined to follow that advice more. Even though it shot my idea at the time. For the AAS ES&ST the NEW credits have to be in the Area of Study. The free electives will populate with stuff you already have. So as long as you have taken new approved FEMA AFTER conferral of the current ASBA you will be fine. The issue is that you have to know what courses besides FEMAs will fit in the area of study. So far we know approved FEMAs, business law, AOJ 102, ENS201, ENS314 and if memory serves AOJ 101. (Do a quick search on the board, I posted my list as did Storyteller and Elinor.) You can also call/email TESC to ask exactly which coures would apply. Second Degree :AAS in Environmental Safety ans Security Technology Question - Lindagerr - 11-22-2011 It took me a while to get it approved after my AA and BA in NSM, but I have been approved to do the AAS in ESS I was given specific FEMA's I could take and I was told they would not except more then 9 fema credits (COJ , AOJ or ENs were fine for the others) All of the 12 credits for the new degree must me in the area of study and they must be NEW credits earned after the last conferred degree. I also plan on going for a BA in SS and I will need 24 new credits in that area of study too. So to graduate with 2 AA's and 2 BA's I need120 credits for 1st 2 then another 36 credits in the right areas for second 2 and those 36 must be earned after Conferral of 1st 2 degrees. I do have a list of the approved FEMA's let me know if you need them Second Degree :AAS in Environmental Safety ans Security Technology Question - emichele20 - 11-22-2011 Okay so I asked and I was basically told that I would have to take credits and earn them in the Area of Study as stated above. So it is a no go. Then I was told that I should start looking into my graduate studies. Thanks for your replies but this is a no go for me. Second Degree :AAS in Environmental Safety ans Security Technology Question - KUJO - 11-22-2011 I have a question similar to this. I am currently having all of my credits evaluated by TESC, currently I have 163 credits evaluated by them. My question for you guys is, Would I be able to graduate with AAS in Environmental Safety ans Security Technology and AAS in Aviation Support at the same time? I would be using different credit in each area of study. I Currently have them evaluation for a BA in Criminal Justice, but I was playing with the online degree selections and see that I could easily graduate with the other 2 AAS's with ease. I'm confused, you don't have time to take free fema's to fill up the new credits required in the area of study? Approved courses eff Aug 2011. A motivated adult could complete those credits effortlessly over a weekend. Considering the area of study for the associates is 21 credits, if you are a business student you should have (or will have) taken business law already, that plus six of your existing FEMA courses will get it done. It will be a free extra diploma when conferred at the same time as your BSBA. I received both degrees Sep 2011, so just went through auditing to know the requirements. Adding a second associates at conferral of your BSBA does not change your timing in beginning a grad program (if that is what you want to do next). One has absolutely nothing to do with the other. Just my opinion. Second Degree :AAS in Environmental Safety ans Security Technology Question - bricabrac - 11-22-2011 KUJO Wrote:I have a question similar to this. No, only one Associate and one Bachelor degree can be conferred together on the same date. You can get the second AAS at the next conferral date and you will still be within the years enrollment period. I would hold off and complete the AAS ES&ST second because you will only need take 12 NEW fema credits beginning day 1 of the month after conferral. (Example: if you graduate March 9 2012, start taking FEMA courses on April 1.) As to not waste time, I would get them done as soon as possible, just go through the courses and fill in the answer sheets on paper print out. As soon as the clock rolls round to April 1, submit all the answers. It can be on the same day or two days, it really doesn't matter. Then fax in your application for the next graduation date (June 3 2012) noting in section 3 the FEMA transcript is on its way. That said, the second degree will only cost you another $272 grad fee -- one heck of a deal! |
