TESC Evaluation for BSAST in Aviation - gshelley61 - 10-04-2011

Well, TESC has basically completed my transfer credit evaluation for the BSAST in Aviation Flight Technology

I wound up with duplicate credits in English Comp and in helicopter flight training.

Also, my Army flight training courses were approved for transfer credit even though they were taken more than 20 years ago.

It appears all I have left to finish this degree is Technical Writing, Physics I and II, and the APS-401 Capstone (12 credits total)...

How should I proceed? Should I take Physics locally, or is there an online/testing option available?

Here are my eval results:

Physics I and II are listed as coming soon at straighterline. It might be worth a phone call to see when they will be available.

Thanks for the tip about Straighterline... I will definitely give them a call to find out what the status is on their upcoming Physics courses.

I'd go with SL as well, however since you have to take the APS course, TESC does have OL physics I and II if that would be easier and/or quicker. May not be cheaper than local however the online vs. classroom time may work better as well.

Physics 1 AND 2? Wow! I can't figure out why you need physics...I mean, you'd think if you "needed" physics to do what you do, you'd have had to have learned it by now hilarious

Best of luck to you, that was my brick wall, but you've had calc, so I imagine you're going to do fine. SL is a good option, I'd wager it'll be algebra (not calc) based. It also looks like you don't need labs, that'll save you $$$.

OH!!!! I just remembered something (thanks Geezer)!!! TESC will exempt you from physics 1 if you successfully complete physics 2! You'll have to scan their catalog to find the exact sequence rule, but if you think you can do Physics 2 through SL, you'll get both for the price/work of 1!

TESC Evaluation for BSAST in Aviation - gshelley61 - 10-06-2011

I called Straighterline yesterday about their upcoming Physics courses... Physics I may be available in a few weeks. Physics II is still in process and no timeframe for availability is known yet.

In the meantime, I should study Technical Writing and test out of that. Should I take the DSST or TECEP for that? Which is easier?

Also, about the APS-401 capstone... what exactly is involved? Has anyone here taken it and knows what I can expect?

I'm also very interested in earning a second bachelors degree at TESC. Since I'm no longer flying for a living, either a Liberal Arts or a Business degree would probably be my two best options. I've been in television advertising sales for the past 17 years, so a Business degree in Marketing would probably be the most beneficial to me career-wise... and I could go on to earn an MBA or MS in Marketing later if I wanted to.

The downside is that I need to earn at least 50 more credits to get a Business degree. I would only need about 30 credits to finish a Liberal Arts degree. Physics I and II could be 6 of those hours - leaving me with the minimum 24 credits beyond the first degree to earn. Plus, I have some other credits not used for the BSAST that might apply to the Liberal Arts degree. So, a BALS would seem to be much closer at hand than a Business degree.

Any words of advice on working on two degrees at the same time? Can I finish two degrees in a year?
