Ok, well, first I went through the entire Comex Guide for College Math. That book was really awesome. It's like your foundation. It summed it all up, explained it all. I also went through some of the sections in Instacert. While I didn't use it that much, I probably did 4 or 5 of the sections, and I think the section on functions was GREAT. I had never really worked with the problems in that form, so it had some problems to do, and explained it somewhat. Though, I will say that I had a "tutor" who helped me through it. He explained it, worked with me on problems, talked me through the things I didn't get. I could go and ask him whatever questions I had. We only worked together a few times, but that was a HUGE help. If you have someone who could help you a little bit in your weak areas, even in like things that you understand in the book, then go to do and can't (that's my deal), it'd help tremendously. Besides that, I went through the Princeton's Cracking the CLEP's review for College Math. It had all the same things as Comex, and between those two books, it about covers everything. But for reassurance sake, and making sure I actually grasped the concepts, I went through the Peterson's CLEP Success review for Math. and did their pre test (which was fairly hard for me. and actually I hear that the Peterson's tests are way harder than the real test, so as not to discourage myself, I didn't even go beyond the pre-test.) and reviewed that and learned why and such. So the Comex guide's practice test and the Cracking the CLEP's practice test are pretty exact to what you'll find in the real test (at least my version). So by the time I went through those practice tests, I didn't have any trouble, did really well, looked over my answers, and went in. I studied for about 2 1/2 weeks. Make sure you know the functions and what to do with them, probability (that took me awhile to figure it out, but make sure you get it--especially how dice and a deck of cards work. ), and understand graphs and domain/range. If you know the stuff in those reviews, you'll be fine. I was terrified of this exam, but it really wasn't THAT bad. It can be done..even by those of us who are tortured by math. |
