How much of Humanities . . . - Alina - 03-28-2007 How much of the Humanities Clep has to do dates/times. Things like "When was the baroque period?" or "So-in-so won a Pulitzer Prize in ________ for Some Novel." I'm very bad at that sort of thing. Dates drain out of my head like a sieve. Also in regards to poetry, how well should you know the poems/excerpts on the flashcards? (Should you have them memorized verbatim?) Iâm only in the first real week of studying for this exam and the amount of information seems overwhelming. I searched previous posts, and found a lot of great tips and help, but these questions didnât seem to be addressed. Iâm thinking 3-4 weeks of study should get me to pass. How much of Humanities . . . - sgloer - 03-28-2007 The information will seem overwhelming, but remember, you don't have to recall information on the test; you just need to recognize correct answers. So here's what I recommend; read each question and explanation thoroughly, but don't agonize over any question for more than a few seconds. Go through all of the questions like this 3, 4, 5, or 10 times until you start feeling comfortable with the information. For additional reassurance (but not mandatory), take the Petersons exams and the CLEP sample test. They can boost your score by a few points, so I personally think they're worth the investment. Good luck! How much of Humanities . . . - Alina - 03-28-2007 I forgot to ask about the Comex guides. I've seen them mentioned. Where do you get these guides, and are they good, and do you need to worry about publication years? Thanks! Here is my review posted on AMAZON.com....... 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: CLEP This - Excelsior Students!!, March 3, 2006 Reviewer: Brian R. Fey Sr. "ShotoJuku-Kaicho" (Tampa Bay, Fl) - See all my reviews This book by far is a MUST HAVE if you want to PASS the Humanities CLEP exam. This book offers a broader yet pinpoint review of the material covered on the actual exam than the REA book. I passed with a 64. GET THIS BOOK!!!! Am I just stressing for nothing? How much of Humanities . . . - ShotoJuku - 03-28-2007 Alina Wrote:Am I just stressing for nothing? Yes - you CAN do it!!! How much of Humanities . . . - Old Rusty Pipe - 03-28-2007 I'm a very avid fan of the Peterson exams. They are high quality, and honestly the best way I have to gauge my level of where I'm at on a CLEP. If you are at all nervous about this particular CLEP, I'd strongly urge you to take the Peterson's practice Humanities. If you are getting over 50% right, you should be good. I'd suggest going with the 60% rule just to be safe however. I used Peterson's exams on EVERY exam offerred, they are a great tool!! How much of Humanities . . . - abby - 03-28-2007 I wouldn't worry too too much about dates and times. Yes, it will help tons if you know the general periods of artwork, literature periods, etc. But, I don't remember questions like "In what year did Mark Twain write Huckleberry Finn" or anything like that. So don't stress about it. Learn the info, Instacert helped me tremendously in getting the facts straight, and having more simple things to recall, than a broad paragraph from 8 different books. Comex is awesome too. Definitely get that. and for me, taking practice tests is key to seeing what I know, assessing what kinds of things will be on the test, and seeing my progress. They are great tools to learn from. Do your best! How much of Humanities . . . - LuBee - 03-28-2007 I put together an excel file that breaks things down into poets, non-fiction, plays, etc... The info was gathered from a number of sources. If you are interested let me know. |
