I've not taken any DSST or CLEP exams before, and I recently decided to give IC a whirl for a Religion class i need. I've been studying the flashcards for about a week now, and have gotten through the first half (eastern & basic religions).
IC touts itself as being the only resource you need to pass these tests, but I am a bit frightened by all of the previous comments about this test. My school requires a 400 to pass the test. I've looked at the Peterson practice tests, and many of the questions seem VERY in depth - not what I would expect for an "Intro" test.
My question to those of you with experience with these tests is: do the tests allow you to miss quite a few questions? I see people in here that passed with a respectable score after claiming to have only studied for a few days. I'm already a week in and I feel woefully not knowledgeable about even the subjects where I am continually getting 100% on the IC flash cards.

Welcome to the forum!
It's important to know that just because some say the exam was easy doesn't mean it really is for everyone. It's important to take a lot of practice tests and use a few things to study from. The second and third Peterson's are known to be harder than the actual exam. Don't take the exam until you feel confident in yourself. Make sure to look at all the great advice in the exam feedback.

I started studying for this test last week and found this podcast Revealing World Religions Podcast by Cynthia Eller - Free Podcast Download that helped me put the pieces from IC together--so it makes more sense to me. Good luck on your test!

I seem to either guess VERY well, or the tests allow for many wrong answers. I'm not sure about the DSSTs, but I thought that I read somewhere that a passing score on a CLEP was similar to getting a "C" in a college course. My impression is that the "C" isn't from a fanatically hard college. Good luck.

I would say that IC is generally the only resource that you need to pay for. My combo for success was IC cards + Specific Feedback Forum + youtube lectures + google/wikipedia.
IC will give you an idea of what's on the test along with a basic explanation, but it will not teach you everything on a subject that you're totally unfamiliar with.
Of course everyone has different learning styles so you'll need to keep that in mind, but if you're going through IC and totally don't understand the card, then STOP. Go to Google and search the topic, UNLESS you have already bookmarked other helpful sites that you found in the IC specific forum feedback.. then check those out first.

If you're scared, supplement. I never used IC exclusively--I always used other sources as well. While IC boosted my grades considerably and is an invaluable resource, I was always paranoid and liked to completely cover my bases and use multiple resources. Maybe check out a book from your library on world religions. Google stuff like crazy. Make notes for yourself. Overkill is wise.
