Totally Overwhelmed - 2oldforskewl - 03-21-2007
Hello All...
I'm new to forum(s) and also new to the CLEP world, wish I knew about this ALOT sooner I would of been on a Doctorate's by now.
lolAnyway, I'm "TRYING" to pursue a Bachelores in Business Administration; However, I don't even know what CLEP's to take as I already have some credits but don't want to take CLEP for classes I don't need or already have taken, anyone have any advice? Also, How difficult are the CLEP exams scoring on a 1-10 system 1 being the easiest and 10 being the hardest??? I will be taking my 1st CLEP next month, but not sure which one to take...
I really hope this forum helps me in completing a lifelong and family dream to be the 1st one in my family to get a College Degree, as I was/am the 1st to attend college. Please help....thanks!
I have my work cut out for me but I'm hoping that with the guidance of some of the people in this forum, it will help expedite the process. Thanks again!

First off, the difficulty of the CLEP is entirely dependent upon the specific test you are talking about. I found Principles of Management, due to the fact that I was an assistant manager at Little Caesars for 6 years, to be relatively easy. I already had an intuitive grasp of the material. Where as with Accounting, I found it to be extremely difficult and tedious. It was completely outside my prior experiences. So I had to in essence build my foundation from scratch.
As to the second part of your question, while I can make some suggestions on specific business related exams to take I'd need to know what school you are going to first. Different schools have slightly different requirements.

I know Sociology is supposed to be among the easiest, and from what you have listed, you could probably take that one. However, you might need to talk to your academic advisor about testing out of electives. I go to UOP, and I have to get prior approval from the school before I take the test if I want credit for the exam through them. I never took the Sociology exam, because I took the class years ago, but that seems to be the test of choice for a first CLEP.

Thanks for your reply...Currently I am registered with Charter Oak State College. I made a list or sort of degree plan that I "THINK" will help me fulfill my requirements; However, I'm not too sure. You have NO idea how helpful or well maybe you do seeing as you are part of the forum yourself, How helpful the people are. I think this is AWESOME.

I would absolutely talk to an academic advisor before taking any other CLEP or Dante tests! You want to be very sure the credit you are spending time and money accumulating will count for something. Someone at your college can help you put a plan together, including the tests that will take the place of classes. Once you know what will count toward your degree, the forum can help you figure the best order in which to take them and where you have the best chances of acing!

Hopefully I am not missing something,but looking at your list I did not see any General Education requirements earned yet. Charter Oak's catalog which you can access at their website has a list of general ed requirements all students must fullfill. Further into the catalog they have a list of Clep,Dantes, TECEP, and Excelsior exams you can use to fullfill your requirements. If you have not yet enrolled you will not have an academic advisor who will work with you individually. You may find until you are ready to matriculate that working on these to be most efficient. For example Written Communication requirement is 6 hrs. The Clep English Comp with Essay will meet that requirement and earn you 6 hours. If you use Clep to meet this requirement it has to be English Comp with Essay. Oral Communication requirement 3 hours, can be met with Dantes 'Principles of Public Speaking.' U.S history 3 hour requirement can be met with either of the US History Cleps. Instantcert would be all you need to prepare for the history. Hope this was helpful. You may want to pay and have them evaluate your credits if you haven't done so already.

Hi,
For me, CLEP has been a mixed bag...some where easy, others were not. The "Analyzing and Interpreting Literature" CLEP seems to go well for most people. It consists of reading short passages and answering questions based off of reading comprehension. It's a good one to start off with and should make the process less intimidating.

As most of you can see...I have already taken a majority of my electives. I'm trying to figure out a path towards my B.S. in Business Administration; However, I now need to complete my CORE Requirement classes...Any ideas on what CLEP/DSST tests I can take to fulfill those requirements?

Here are a couple of the general education requirements you will have to meet with the corresponding Clep/Dantes test that will fullfill those requirements.
Some of the General Education Requirements
(b) Behavorial Science Clep Social Science and History
(d) Ethical Decision Making Dantes Ethical Decision Making in America
(g) Global Understanding Dantes Introduction to World Religions
(o) Oral Communication Dantes Principles of Public Speaking
(s) Natural Science Clep Natural Science
(u) U.S. History and Government Clep U.S. History I or II
These are not the only requirements nor the only exams you can take that will meet COSC gen-ed requirement,but it is a start. The above exams will earn you 24 credit hours.
