During high school, my youngest son was unsure of whether he wanted to go with a Political Science or an English degree. He was still hesitant during his first semester of college. Because of this, he tested out of several subjects in both areas, hoping it would help make a decision. Now, if he finishes at the school he is currently in, he will have close to 160 hours credit when he graduates. So, we decided to have evaluations done to the Big 3. Since we had a few questions about the COSC evaulation, he shot off an email to them. This was part of their reply.
"Regarding the recent courses you took at SNU, Charter Oak only accepts 100 degree-applicable credits towards a Bachelorâs degree".
Say what? I thought there were only two required two courses at Charter Oak. Is this new or has it always been that way?

That is correct, there are only two required classes. The policy on their website states:
Charter Oak has two academic residency requirements. The first is a 3-credit cornerstone course required for students enrolled in either an associate or bachelor's degree program at the college. The cornerstone course is taken in the student's first term as an enrolled Charter Oak student. The second is a 3-credit capstone course required of all students completing a bachelor's degree.
Perhaps, only 100 of his credits are applicable towards the specific degree he is pursuing. Are any of his credits physical education or developmental? Do any of the courses duplicate? Are they all in one subject? Are they from a community college? There might be several variables involved in the response they gave you. It is best to call them, and ask for them to clarify the email.

COSC only requires two classes, the Cornerstone and Capstone for graduation and does not have a limit on transfer credits. However, this does not necessarily mean that they would accept all of your son's credits. COSC requires a total of 30 upper level credits, with 15 of those in the area of study. Without knowing what credits he took, my best guess is that there are just too many lower level credits to accept them all. If this isn't the case, I would ask them to be more specific. There could be also be some other issue such as credits that they consider to be duplicate or some other reason. They do have an 87 credit limit from community college courses, but I'm not sure if this is applicable either.
What are your son's plans after he obtains his undergrad and do you have a preference for COSC? If a different one of the Big 3 accepts more of his credits, he might want to look at the one that makes the most sense. Does he plan on going to graduate school?
