resources?? - ffdpsoldier - 07-08-2011 im curious were people are learning from for courses. i know a lot of theses exams takes lots of work to memorize and everyone learns in different ways. Im a visual learner... i passed astronomy by watching the history channels universe... i just seen someone poste kahnacademy which seems like a really great place with lots of videos... which will help when i try to tackle precal math..... any more video sites like that would be nice knowing if anyone has some and this might be a weird question but i cant figure it out my university requires finite math / what is it???? and would a type of aleks class maybe cover it..... and how hard is (business, intro, regular)statistics if im horrible at math.... video resources for history sociology math marketing accounting flight theory holistic studies communications anthropology business/management and any others would be nice, im getting a history BA from western michigan university by summer or fall2012.... and maybe looking to get another 1 in sociology with a minor in flight resources?? - jansroots - 07-10-2011 I agree -- Sometimes listening to a class while I take notes works well. Even if you're just listening to it in the background while you're doing other things (osmosis-type thing). It can definitely help w/ memorization. That said... Here are 3 resources... [Oops - 4] Cable TV broadcast from your local university: Call your local cable office. Ask for a copy of their schedule and channel for the university classes (in this area - George Mason; the local community college have televised classes). Sometimes, the university will tell you what it's broadcasting when. There is another way to figure out what's on when, if those avenues don't work. Worst case, record about 5 mins of the school channel every 30 minutes (or 10 min from 25 min to 35 min past the hour). Then, fast forward thru them and figure out which classes are being broadcast when. You'll need to scan all week and one weekend, though. That's the bad news, but once you've found them... Online Videos of classes iTunes-U has a lot of courses from various colleges, and they're free. Believe it or not, You-Tube does, also. iTunes example -- Psych 101 (Intro) http://itunes.apple.com/itunes-u/psychology-1-001-fall-2010/id391539320 Online Presentations Another site that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere as a learning resource is SlideShare.Net. Registration is free. People put presentations online for many things, and a lot of professors put theirs up w/ audio, as well. I've used it as a resource for my online classes, and it's worked well on my papers and discussion posts. Anything from work presentations, conference material, and classes, as well. Some of the slides are a little bit on the poor-quality side, but once you learn what to search for, you get golden. You want to search for the word "Week" and your subject (i.e. Week Accounting), then when you find a class that's of good quality, search for that "author" and you can get all the other weeks for that class. The link is... http://www.slideshare.net Peterson's DoD Resource You are entitled to free tests and resources from Peterson's If you are spouse or family member of anyone who has had military service (active or retired) (incl. Coasties), OR spouse/family of a military contractor or civilian military employee... In the DC area, that's practically anyone! (j/k) I'm both a contractor and daughter of a Ret. WWII Marine. http://www.nelnetsolutions.com/dod/Default.aspx?sponsor=12894 BUT, if you've gone to the regular Peterson's site and registered, there will be a cookie on your system that will keep you from being able to use the system more than a single test without calling them to "extend your service". Remove all cookies from nelnetsolutions.com to make it work, and you're set. BTW -- I took my first practice test for Fin Accounting and got 49%. I then made Flash Cards for each of the ones I missed, and figured out my areas that I needed to work on... The Contra Accounts, Inventory, and "Reading the directions". Then I came back here and started on more flash cards in those areas, as well. Confidence level rising -- I'm taking the test next weekend. Anyway, Hope this helps, and good luck! --Jan resources?? - Lady Grace of Pemberley - 11-29-2012 ffdpsoldier Wrote:any more video sites like that would be nice knowing if anyone has some I know this is kind of an old thread, but here are a two video sites I have found to be helpful (in addition to Khan academy): List of All Free Online College Courses & Video Lessons - Education Portal HippoCampus - Homework and Study Help - Free help with your algebra, biology, environmental science, American government, US history, physics and religion homework I definitely enjoy watching videos in preparation for exams -- it helps to solidify the facts I have learned and I can multi-task while I am watching them, too.

Now I'm taking a course called "Everyday Math" through Excelsior. It's pricey - about $1300 with the book - but very doable. I'm halfway through it (8 week course) and it has been fun (wow!) and the least stressful math class I've ever taken. resources?? - commdiver - 11-29-2012 bluebooger Wrote:MIT OpenCourseWare | Free Online Course Materials /end thread This is the best. Some of the series have updates though. They can be cheesy, but I like them because they don't bore me to tears. I have a short attention span which makes it hard from me to sit through Khan Academy videos even though they're short. I still think it's a good resource for non-ADHD people, however. resources?? - clep3705 - 11-30-2012 Free CLEP videos here: List of All Free Online College Courses & Video Lessons - Education Portal Free DSST study guides here: Free Study Guides and Practice Tests - DantesTestPrep.com |
