GPA Boost from Penn Foster -> Excelsior - durandtheman - 07-07-2011 Hi All, I'm just curious about Excelsior offering grades for ACE accepted Penn Foster courses. Have many here done this sort of thing? I'm looking for a little boost for my GPA, and could consider taking some courses from Penn Foster to help out with that, on top of their ACE accepted UL courses. The rest are just GE courses I could easily take a CLEP, but the GPA boost would be happily accepted. Could someone here help me with their experiences with Penn Foster? For the difference in price, it is not such a big deal if I get the added benefit of the GPA added to my transcript. Looking to see if I can get some guidance. Thanks! GPA Boost from Penn Foster -> Excelsior - Ace_King - 07-07-2011 Your right about Excelsior issuing letter grades to Penn Foster credits. You would have to send your ACE transcript and your Penn Foster transcript as well, although I read on here a couple people sent the Penn Foster transcript alone. They are self pace courses, the exams are done online, some courses will require a proctored exam although anyone with an associates degree can be your proctor..(ask your "neighbor" hint.. hint). I go to the local library and do mines. I had trouble with them some times. But, I made it through the 4th semester. Let me tell you, all the tests and essays you write with Penn Foster make sure you read the book and go by the book. The reason I say that is..it looks like Penn Foster instructors only go by the book when correcting your essays or exams. That resulted in some classes of me not getting an "A". Because I was going of what I know at the time. They want the exact definitions of whats in the book, and not your "definition". The books are pretty much out dated. I had a book of 2003 last semester, and I was writing an essay about the topic, and the topic asked define a law in 2003 ( I forgot what law it was asking me to define), although I remember that specific law changed in 2008 and well....put it this way they took points off because I added updated information haha. I even called them to argue that the law changed in 2008, and he told me straight up "You go by the book and nothing else" So make sure you go by the book to get that "A". In final I had no other problems...they do ship kind of slow and a hassle to get on the phone with. All in all I think Penn Foster is a great bargain and most of it's courses are ACE reviewed so, I wouldn't skip it over anything.
