go at your own pace sites? - ffdpsoldier - 07-04-2011

I have 6 years in the army, now in national guard and rotc. I'm in my last year in college and I want to lighten my workload for the last year so I can take it easy. I seen on here about the aleks site, and I migh use it for the math classes I need since. I haven't had a math class for 7 years now... I would like to know more I'm going to be a history major. I would like to find classes that are online and cheap like aleks in the subjects of history physics anthropolgy sociology marketing. I will try clep classes too I have order rea books for marketing algebra and sociology. And will be using. Instantcert or speedyprep. Any help will be nice

For sociology courses, CLEP the intro one and then look at Colorado State Pubelo Independent Learning.

It will be difficult to find physics courses online, but you might want to look at the UExcel Physics exam for 6 100 level credits.

For marketing, there is a CLEP for intro and some TECEP exams from Thomas Edison State College for 300 level courses.

History has a lot of CLEP/DSST options and also look at BYU, U Idaho and LSU.

Does any one know if you can duel enroll using the post 9/11 gi bill I would like to try take classes at the university and maybe do some clep stuff on excelsior because I'm not sure what western michigan university policy is on clep the site says both yes and no and I haven't gotten a clear answer and if I can get a transfer credit from anoher college I think they might take it.

Please don't try this. Excelsior's transcript very clearly shows where each credit came from and will not make transferring CLEP easier. Try again to find the credit-by-exam policy at your school and follow it.

They accept cleps subjects but not general, and I'm not sure if they accept the aleks Ace credits , but ill useit because I can use it for the clep,.... I. Failed a intermed algebra. Class so I need this.... does anyone know of any other websites that offer the same thing aleks does but for other college credit..... any where I don't have to follow a timeline and I can knock out a whole class in a week? And thanks for the advice this is the best info for credit by exam information I've found on the web

Straighterline (also ACE approved) is the only other one other than ALEKS that meets your criteria, but one week is too ambitious unless you are on leave and solely focused on the class.

You might want to consider finding someone to tutor you in math and then take the College Algebra CLEP (assuming that your program will accept that as meeting your degree's math requirement). That's not a one week proposition though, and neither would any class be (other than ALEKS or possibly Straighterline). I'd

Just got the word that my school accepts ace credits , so I'm going to do the aleks route. And I would try straighterline but by looking at there sit its still based on a school time line semester of 8 or 12week classes... I like the cd rom idea . But if I can knock out a credit or 2 2 while I'm not at the university or national guard I want too. But it would have to be at my own pace. Like aleks........I realy do thank everybody for there help because I never herd of aleks before I got to the site and that's what will save my college and military career because I hve only a year left before I'm commisioned and would hate to fail math again and loose everything I worked for. :hurray: and if anyone knows. Any other ace credit sites I'm all ears, because more credits is a good thing even if they count or not I think

A lot of us have and it is an excellent deal. Do the search and you will find more.
Its 100 bucks a month, 39 per class and the books are listed on the site. You can buy them used from amazon.com and get a little bit older version for next to nothing. Older versions are not a problem because they don't give you homework from the book. The tests are online and not proctored but do have a time limit. The book is absolutely required to do well on the tests.
Highly recommended.
