Arnold Fletcher award - blu2blu - 06-15-2011 I received my BA from TESC in the mail the other day, or my wife did rather as I happen to be out of the country, she was kind enough to scan all of the paperwork that came with the diploma. I discovered that I received the Arnold Fletcher award. The TESC catalog mentions that the award is for "excellence in non-traditional education," and goes to students who achieve 90 or more credits via non-traditional methods. I've done some research on this board and degreeinfo.com and discovered quite a few other folks who have also received this award, congrats to all. What I haven't been able to figure out is just who Arnold Fletcher is or was. Does anyone know? My searches fail to yield any useful information. I am guessing that he is someone who either did some pioneering work in non-traditional education or was somehow associated with Thomas Edison, either the actual Mr. Edison or the campus that bears his name. Any ideas? I found this about Arnold Fletcher. Arnold Fletcher Award The Arnold Fletcher Award recognizes Thomas Edison State College baccalaureate graduates for exceptional achievement in nontraditional learning. Students selected for this award have demonstrated excellence and earned a large number of credits using one or more of the innovative learning modes developed and/or recognized by the College. The award is named in honor of Dr. Arnold Fletcher, who served as vice president for Academic Affairs at Thomas Edison State College from 1973 â 1983. Arnold Fletcher award - blu2blu - 06-15-2011 Thanks for the info. I must be off my game I'm normally good at finding out things I want to know lol. Arnold Fletcher award - NAP - 06-15-2011 Congratulations on earning that award! Arnold Fletcher award - bricabrac - 06-15-2011 CONGRATULATIONS on your achievement!! cheersmate Arnold Fletcher award - dcan - 06-16-2011 Does the 90 or more allow for transfer credits? Or are transfer credits considered "traditional"? I will transfer in 49 from my CCAF degree, take 18 at TESC, maybe take 6 at UMUC, and the rest will be tests or ALEKS. CCAF grants credit for Air Force technical and professional leadership education earned during a career. CCAF doesn't teach classes, it evaluates the Air Force tech schools and leadership academies to determine applicable credit, and structures a career-field-specific AAS degree for every enlisted member in the Air Force. Arnold Fletcher award - Lindagerr - 06-16-2011 Congrats on your award. It still bothers me that I did not qualify. I transferred in 43 CC credits. So even though I did all my 77 remaining credits non traditional I did not qualify. I guess I am just a sore loser.:nopity: Maybe if I ever finish my History degree I can make sure they use at least 90 non traditional credits As of today I have 89 non traditional credits. Arnold Fletcher award - cookderosa - 06-16-2011 Congratulations!! I also received that award, I'd like to know who else here has received this award? We outta start a little club :coolgleam: with jackets.....and a handshake.... Arnold Fletcher award - blu2blu - 06-17-2011 dcan, Transfer credits from RA schools probably do not count toward the non-traditional requirement. I do not think CCAF credits count either since the CCAF is RA also. My CCAF credits are listed on my BA transcript as Community College transfer credits while my Navy SMART (ACE evaluated) credits are listed under "Assessment credits," the same as all of my CLEP/DSST credits. I like that idea about a secret handshake lol. If memory serves there was a large number of 2010 AF award recipients. Very cool! Burgundy blazers please?? |
