Now I realize why so many of you went for 2nd Bachelors! (TESC Enrollment Fee) - CollegeStudent7 - 06-06-2011 Hey you guys, So I've been quite and utilizing the search feature as much as possible. I have found even more great information. Here's my lil' question. I have paid $75 to be "enrolled" at TESC, but have yet to pay that hefty nearly-3k enrollment fee...if that makes sense. It was my idea to wait until I have just 2 classes (or less than 6 credits) left and then pay it in order for me to graduate. What I want to ask is...say (just a scenario) I finish all of my classes by October for a degree in Liberal Studies and then I wish to go on to complete a B.A. Mathematics. Since I'll have to earn a total MINIMUM of 24 new credits for my 2nd degree, I'm going to give myself up to a solid year to complete that. It will be moreso at my own pace. I just want to know if I pay that nearly 3k enrollment fee for TESC in October (2011) is it good until next October (an entire year from date of "purchase")? Another thread made it seem as though this was the case and I just wanted to confirm and make sure nothing has changed recently, etc. Thanks! Now I realize why so many of you went for 2nd Bachelors! (TESC Enrollment Fee) - CollegeStudent7 - 06-06-2011 73 views and not one answer? Calling TESC's 800 number was a pain...guess I'll have to try other routes. Now I realize why so many of you went for 2nd Bachelors! (TESC Enrollment Fee) - KyleH - 06-07-2011 I'm not totally sure because, well, I haven't done it yet, but as far as I know, yes, once you fork over the 3k you have them for a year and can do whatever you want as long as you meet the guidelines for the second Bachelors. In fact, I'm pretty sure you can earn the "new" credits of the second degree before you have your first degree as long as they aren't on the first degree's transcript. So you could hypothetically wait a little while before starting the one year countdown if you don't need the degree right this second. Now I realize why so many of you went for 2nd Bachelors! (TESC Enrollment Fee) - Yenisei - 06-07-2011 CollegeStudent, IIRC, both your money and your time are limited. Given that, get one degree or the other, do not try to get both. I assume by the "BA in Mathematics", you actually mean the BA in Natural Sciences and Mathematics, but if you do mean the BA in Mathematics, please drop the idea because that degree will take you too long. My recommendation: just get the BA in Natural Sciences and Mathematics and be done with it. Don't incur additional expenses and stress. Now I realize why so many of you went for 2nd Bachelors! Ahhh I see. Well I just need ANY Bachelors to have more doors open for me in regards to positions. While I can get work now, having a Bachelors definitely gives me a little more leverage. I had this idea that I could finish up a BA in Liberal Studies (or even Psychology) really quickly and then take my sweet time finishing my 2nd degree in something a little more specialized. I will even take an entire 8+ months (however long I have from the time I pay that enrollment) because this 2nd degree will be more for self satisfaction and something even nicer to slap on a resume. I don't mind if the 2nd Bachelors takes forever, so long as I pay enrollment once. My 1st BA I need ASAP (within 3-5 months), if possible, although I will not die if that doesn't happen as I'm getting pretty steady work right now through a temp agency and loving the flexibility. Thanks for your straightforwardness Y. I can always count on you to give it to me "real". As you see from what I posted above, my 2nd degree would be something that I can do at my own leisure. The quicker I complete my first BA, the more time I have left to complete my 2nd. I need my 1st BA simply as something to slap on my resume. It will help me earn more, quicker, and actually pay off :-D. So my idea was to complete all the needed credits for something like Liberal Studies or Psychology (as I heard you can test out of all of those) and when I'm 1-2 courses away (probably within 2-3 weeks of being complete) I'll pay my enrollment fee, graduation fees, all fees...etc ..etc. so that I can graduate. From that point I'll have almost an entire year to complete a 2nd Bachelors. That's where I'm coming from. I hope that makes sense. I figure that another 24 credits will cost me, at most, 4k total with fees and everything and I'm totally ok with that. Another spin to this..I actually qualify for Financial Aid for the year of 2011. I realize I have to take 6 credits to get some of it, so I'm going to do the math on everything, extra money I could be making, time factor and see how things weigh out. If the classes last 12 weeks, that wouldn't be too bad, but I would have to start them within the next month. Gotta look at TESC's schedule. Now I realize why so many of you went for 2nd Bachelors! (TESC Enrollment Fee) - Yenisei - 06-07-2011 TBH, I don't see a payoff for you in getting a second degree since you just want one for the heck of it. Put that 4K towards a master's degree or something else of long-term value. I am getting a second bachelor's, but it isn't related to my first and it will help me professionally- otherwise I wouldn't do it. I don't see any professional benefit for you, hence my advice. You're moving the goal post. Watch: while not enrolled, earn all but 6 credits over the course of x months. Pay enrollment. Finish 6 credits and graduate. or while not enrolled, earn all but 6 credits over the course of x months. Pay enrollment. Finish 6 credits. Don't graduate. Earn 30 new credits ($) spend an additional 8 months at TESC. Graduate with a double major in a significantly different area. Couple things- if you go with liberal arts first, your only choices for a second degree are business, technical studies, or nursing. If you go with math/nat science first, your choices include anything from the humanities or social science. You can't get 2 degrees if you graduate, that ends your first enrollment and you pay a graduation fee. This works if you go from an associate to bachelor, but with your bachelor to bachelor you're going to need to do a double major or get 1 degree. IMO this is a bad, long, expensive idea. This is not why so many go for a second bachelors, in fact, I don't know that so many do. I can probably count the people here (who have done that) on my fingers. Put that 4K towards a master's degree or something else of long-term value. I see what you are saying. I'm practically afraid of a Masters. Worked at an agency and those with Masters were generally at a major disadvantage of being hired as employers saw them as being more costly (expecting higher pay) and more of a liabillity as most will want to move up or out. However, those with their Masters in Accounting, or something highly specialized, fared well. Something for me to think about. Now I realize why so many of you went for 2nd Bachelors! That way it's under 1 enrollment fee. When you say financial aid, I hope you mean a grant not a loan? Otherwise you're going into debt for a second degree when you could be in grad school (much higher yield). ALSO, please note that you're only going to get 1/4 of your $. They only award $ for the semesters inwhich you are enrolled. If you complete 1 semester (6 credits) you get only 1/4 of the award. You need to enroll for a full year (6*4) to get the full award.
