Cost Accounting - Straighterline Class & Excelsior? - durandtheman - 04-28-2011

Hi everybody,
I have a question regarding receiving credit from Excelsior for Straighterline newer "Managerial Accounting" class. It is not directly transferrable to Excelsior, but is transferrable to TESC as their "Cost Accounting" class.

I did notice that also, in the past Excelsior had an accounting class called ACC 360: Cost Accounting. I found it under the Anglia Ruskin University Collaboration.

This isn't listed in their course catalog, and I'm just looking to maximize on my money spent @ straightliner (took my time for the 1st month for 3 courses and paid another $99).

my plan is to just complete the course and transfer to TESC and then to Excelsior.

Anyone have experience doing that with this specific course?

Let me know, i haven't had time to call Excelsior Couselers yet, since i'm at work.

Thanks!!
DurandtheMan

On straighterline, I took this course this month and I loved it. It wasn't a total breeze but if you have taken accounting before then you should be fine. Now I see your plan but I am not too sure that it will work. TESC only grants credit for the straighterline courses and I do not know if excelsior will accept a transcript that only has credit on it with out seeing the original source.

One option would be to wash the credit through charter oak but they have it listed as a lower level accounting course. College Transfer Credits Process - StraighterLine There are are few other schools that provide letter grades but most do not accept all of SL courses.

The other option would be to apply for the credit through ace. Have SL send the credit directly to ace and then pay for the transcript.

Thanks for the quick tips. I think I will call and ask a couseller if they can accept it from TESC, otherwise what other options they can give me. Straighterline seems to do a great job getting the credit to the right sources, so I'm hoping to have this class apply to my BA and not my AA, not the biggest deal if it does.

Regardless if it does or not, I'm still being positive. I've already paid for the class and purchased the book, so hopefully I'll be done with this class before the end of this pay cycle at straighterline.

Thanks for your help!!

I completed this class (both SL Accounting I and II) and they were transferred to Excelsior fine, General Accounting and Managerial Accounting respectively. They are Pass/Fail transfers.

It was less than 30 days ago.

Yes these two transfer fine but the new course which is acct 150 is not listed under their agreement.

That's correct. I'm going to try and transfer the new accounting course found on Straighterline to Excelsior through TESC as "Accounting 360 - Cost Accounting" which is a course formerly carried by Excelsior but is no longer listed in the course catalog.

Hopefully transferring this from TESC as an upper division course will work!! Fingers crossed!

So, got an email back from a counselor and looks like Excelsior DOES accept Cost Accounting as an Upper Level business elective!! Now the one thing I need to cross my fingers on is that they accept the transcript from TESC for the credit!!

If excelsior accepts the course as UL why do you need to transcript through TESC? I would understand if you were washing through FHSU for a grade but TESC does not give grades for SL courses.

Unfortunately excelsior doesn't accept that straighterline course yet. Only tesc does. My question to excelsior was if they can accept credit for a cost accounting course. Now I just need to hope the won't question where I got the credit from I'd I transfer from tesc
