WGU is stalking me..... - grauwulf - 04-15-2011

Has anybody else had this experience? Last week I filled out the contact form & submitted a request for information. With minutes I had a form email explaining the program. The next morning I had two more emails. Then I got a phone call. Then another phone call. Then i got two packets in the mail. Then even MORE emails. Persistence is all well and good but is this normal or did I just get an entrance adviser on crank?

I'm a little worried because I was considering WGU for graduate school. Although I really like the flexibility of the programs, I'm not sure if I'm willing to be hounded to death for the next year of my life.

Thanks all.

Well funny thing is...I requested information for TESC,EC, LIBERTY, COSC. The two that won't stop sending me mail are Liberty U. and Excelsior. Tesc I had to call them and tell them I'm not signing up yet, and they stopped the mail believe it or not. But hey it's my fault for signing up with information. I requested information with COSC and they stopped after the first brochure they sent me haha. Maybe I'm the only one that keeps getting calls from EC or TESC? O.o

Yes.. quite a few schools I might add. However, even the non-profit schools will call you, but not always for the same reasons. Sometimes they're just anxiously trying to fill seats in class, especially if you request info for a major that's low in attendance.

I had this happen with the MBA program of my dreams. (see link below in sig) They've contacted me several times since I first requested info last year. Each time I've been glad that they've called because it keeps me motivated, but I get the feeling that since it's a brand new, relatively unknown program, they're just trying to make sure that they have enough people to be able to have a full class in the fall.

Thanks for the review...LOL. I have been checking out the website, now I know not to do anything more until I'm actually serious about considering them. I have to admit their MBA program looks very doable after TESC.

Wonder if they are offering any scholarships? Why not shoot your meth head admissions counselor an email asking if any of the programs have graduate scholarships or assistantship gigs. Let's see if they continue to stalk you then. Big Grin

I do have to agree though. Lately I been seeing a lot of University of Florida (of course in my area) billboards near the highways, just like how UoP has been doing for the last couple of years. So it's not bad that schools are trying to fill the seats. Lately, there are allot of non profit schools advertising more. Which is cool...just hope they don't over advertise to much heh

I spoke to a TESC grad admissions counselor about a month ago. The counselor took a lot of time to walk me through the process and answer ALL my questions. I never heard from them again and I'm a current student working on 2nd bachelors.Big Grin

I know this is irrelevant from the question but... The other day UoP called me and was really trying hard to sign me up. I told them, it's okay and asked if they can remove me from the calling list because that wasn't the first time they called either heh. The guy on the other side of the phone totally ignored my request and kept telling me about UoP. So, just to make him a little bit excited, I started asking him questions and he basically tells me "Don't you want a degree that's regionally accredited, that's all that counts" I told him "yes I do" and than I asked him "So how much would it be if I we're to take 5 classes for a semester with you guys. He replied "Financial aid will mostly cover you and loans, but could be around $5000-6000 you will be fine" blah blah blah and I told him "That's funny...because my whole bachelors degree will be around that price when I'm done" and of course he started laughing and didn't believed me. He than asked me.."the school is not even accredited and it's worthless, what is the name of the school anyways?" I told him "Excelsior college" and a few seconds later I heard complete silence...and he hung up. Wow. I think I proved him wrong =]

Thanks for all of the good feedback folks! Keep it coming if you've got it.

The idea of a school trying to sell itself in this way really puts me off. WGU is kind of my backup school as I'm fairly sure I can finish their M.S. program in about a year, but having already done online school I'd like to to try an in-person education experience. Even so, WGU was at the top of my list for cost/flexibility/& expediency. I say "was", but I'm not entirely put off. The idea of a M.S. in 1 year is rather alluring.

again, thanks for the feedback folks!

WGU did call me quickly and often at first. Once I applied I was assigned one admission councilor and she has been great. I had my eval done and they want 4 prereqs to get in the program. I am slowly working on them and WGU only calls about once a month to see if I am still intertested.
