COSC Lowered Enrollment Costs! - burbuja0512 - 04-07-2011 In the past, to enroll at COSC, you had to pay the $75 enrollment fee plus yearly tuition of $1400. This is still cheaper than TESC, but if you add in the cost of the two classes you have to take there, it's actually more expensive. I just got the following letter today: Dear Student: Effective July 1, 2011, Charter Oak State College will be transitioning from the annual academic services fee to a semester-based fee, called the College Fee. The College Fee is $165 for in-state students and $220 for out-of-state students. Students will be billed each semester (Summer, Fall, and Spring) and will need to pay each semester to remain an active student. We are in the process of implementing this change. The new College Fee becomes effective July 1, 2011 and since your annual academic services fee expires July 1 or August 1, 2011, your initial college fee will be billed for the Fall 2011 semester. Charter Oak State College businessoffice@charteroak.edu 860.832.3909 I double-checked with my advisor, and she confirmed that yes, this makes enrollment a lot cheaper for test-takers. No more $1400 enrollment. It could be really cheap. If I do the math, it would look like this: First of all, assume that we're all out of state here. I don't think most of us live in CT. Then assume that rather than enroll right away, I've gotten my testing credits out of the way before I enroll. That would mean that I would first pay: $75 enrollment fee $220 - one semester of COSC $825 * 2 classes (capstone/cornerstone) = $1650 Total = $1945 if you can do it in one semester, which you could hypothetically if you take your tests ahead of time. Even if it takes you a full year though, it would only add 220 dollars on to the price. I didn't include books because you can get used so cost may vary. COSC Lowered Enrollment Costs! - alleycat - 04-07-2011 Thanks for sharing. This is great news for many people that are thinking about getting their degree at COSC. It is a bargin. COSC Lowered Enrollment Costs! - robyns@ftc-i.net - 04-07-2011 Wow!! This is great news, thanks so much for sharing. I am trying to do just what you are talking about. I am taking DSST test as fast as I can prepare for them (approx. 1 per month) then I will need to take a few ECE. Then hopefully the 2 capstones at COSC. Again, thanks sooo much for sharing this. Any hints on DSST or ECE study guides in addition to Instant Cert? What degree are you seeking at COSC? I am seeking to complete the BS in Health Studies. Good Luck!!! I looked into the health studies too, but the only ones that can be completed mostly through testing are psych, business, liberal studies, or a learner-designed area of studies, which could be a combination of something that would suit your needs such as business and healthcare, and it's a nice way to create a degree that would be helpful for your career and slightly easier to test out of. I ended up with bus admin and have enjoyed it. I do have several sample COSC concentration plans that my advisor sent me, so send me a PM if you need them. COSC Lowered Enrollment Costs! - Storyteller - 04-07-2011 Thanks for taking the time to post this important information about COSC's new fee structure. It's making me reconsider my decision to go with TESC COSC Lowered Enrollment Costs! - Bunbu - 04-07-2011 That's awesome! I'm still testing as much as I can and I've always been torn apart between TESC and COSC. This new pricing and their supposedly excellent customer service may tip the balance over COSC. COSC Lowered Enrollment Costs! - ryoder - 04-07-2011 Hmm, I wonder why? Is their enrollment down? I wish TESC had some more economical options. The enrollment fee was annoying to me but can be prohibitive to others and their lack of capstone is so great. According to Wikipedia, COSC has just over 2,000 students while TESC has over 17k and EC over 30k. COSC has some catching up to do! They definitely don't want to lessen their requirements and have made it clear that they don't want to be known as the easiest of the big 3, but I think that they went overboard on their requirements and are now trying to make up for it with a cheaper price. So if you don't mind a capstone and cornerstone, COSC will save some money. I like them, but I probably would have been just as happy at TESC or EC. I really dreaded the capstone class, but frankly it's really not that bad. I'm glad I'm doing it and week 5 of 8 starts on Monday. It's almost over and it barely started I do feel much more prepared for grad school actually having done an online class. COSC Lowered Enrollment Costs! - Yenisei - 04-08-2011 Good move by COSC, now if they come up with their own version of the BA in Nat Sci/Math, they might be an option for people like me. |
