Spoiled by testing - waiting for classes - irnbru - 02-20-2011 The flexibility and personal freedom to manage my own education through testing out and self-paced courses is constantly refreshing. If ever there was a reminder of why this method is so great it's the following situation. Rushed to enroll with EC in order to catch the last train on the Subject GRE testing out credit option. Continued with various tests and self-paced courses for credit. Took a partnership deal with EC in order to receive lower up front matriculation fees in exchange for taking 12 credits with them. 8 week online courses are fine. Lots of busy, busy on the course message boards but a nice pace and fairly interesting. 15 week online course is dragging out and the 15 week cdrom course is just one of those lurking things in the background. The capstone requirement - a 15 week online course which is required in order to graduate. They run every three months, or so. Except, the next capstone course in March is full. So, we get to kick our heels around for a few months waiting for the next one to open. Maybe even go over the 1 year point since matriculation. Maybe have to pay another year's matriculation fees. At partnership prices, this incurs another 12 credits with EC. Alternative is to pay full initial matriculation fees for the additional year, then graduate a few weeks later. Testing out really is awesome in comparison
Spoiled by testing - waiting for classes - burbuja0512 - 02-20-2011 OMG Inbru we are almost in the exact same situation. I am also shooting for the March Capstone class at COSC. I HAVE to have Finance done, and I'm not going to take it until next week, so I'm sweating it, but I never even thought of the fact that the class might not be sitting there waiting for me!! I'm glad that COSC has 8 week Capstones. I think I have ADHD waaay tooo badly to sit through 15 weeks of the same topic! If I can't get into the March 14 Capstone, I will have to pay an additional 1500 dollars to re-matriculate. I hope that you can get on the waiting list and somehow get in. Spoiled by testing - waiting for classes - ryoder - 02-20-2011 I lucked out with TESC where I don't need a capstone course. I can't believe I am getting a real BSBA CIS with no stinking college class, online or not. I mean I did straighterline and penn foster but those were fun and straightforward. I am so spoiled by the at my own pace diy learning that I honestly don't know if I can do anything else now. Thats why I'm almost definitely doing WGU's MS info security. The only problem is that I don't get a grade and it probably won't have much use if I ever wanted a doctorate. Spoiled by testing - waiting for classes - marianne202 - 02-21-2011 If you know from your courses that a lot of you are eligible for the March Capstone, have everyone email their advisors and ask for another section to be added. That happened with mine and they added another section. We only had about 10 in our Capstone. It is worth asking about since you already know the alternative. With enough students complaining about wanting to finish, they may just move it up or offer another section sooner then they would normally offer it. Good luck! |
