Help with scenerio for 18yr old - cakesincups - 01-16-2011

In doing research for myself, I find information I think will help my daughter, my sister, my cousin, friends, etc.

My friends nephew is graduating this May and wants to be a Pharmacist. He can go to a four year college for free because his step-father works there and plans to get his basics there. He then wants to go to the University of Texas.

Does anyone have a plan for him that would be cheap in tuition and time with any combination of the Big 3, CLEP, DSST, TECEP, ECE, etc??

TIA,
Melissa

Hey Melissa,

That is great that he can actual attend college for free because of his step father. The thing he needs to do is look at the Pharm programs he is thinking about entering and planning his degree around that. They have alot of pre requ's and he can get them done and use them in a degree. Most people that seek a grad degree in Pharm have a degree in bio or biochem. Doesn't mean that people don't have other degree and then have to go back and take all of the science and maths. That being said I would recommend that he look at the school he is considering going to and see what the Clep, DSST, and AP policy is and use it to the max. Thats what my daughter had done and she shaved 1 yr off of school because of it. She used the school policy to her best advantage.

Why?? He already has the best 4 year degree price- FREE! A CLEP costs money, so if he takes an exam, he's spending more than he has to. This might be the first person in IC history who would spend MORE money by testing out than taking classes!!Big Grin

99% of his peers in pharmacy school go in with debt, he won't, so he's well ahead of the curve. He'll have extensive lab sciences, and those can't be skipped anyway. Do the 4 year degree at the step-father's college, do more than basics, do it all. Rock out the admission exams, and apply early and broad to pharm programs. Good luck to him!cheersmate
