Western Civ. I: Am I ready? (Scaling questions) - JSU - 01-03-2011 Hey everyone, I am new to this forum and new to CLEP exams in general. I plan on taking the Western Civ. I test either tomorrow or next week. Last week I sat down and read through the REA guide. Since then, I have taken Peterson Tests 1 and 3 receiving a 62% and a 56% (are these supposed to correlate to the scaled score?). I also took REA test 1 and got 62% correct which scaled to a 52 on the program and a 64 using the scale in the book. Which is correct and do you think I am ready for prime time? Thanks! J Western Civ. I: Am I ready? (Scaling questions) - KyleH - 01-03-2011 First, no, the percentages are not correlated to the scaled score. They are just percentages. From what I read somewhere, if you are getting 50% or more, you are getting passing. Not sure if that's true, though. When I personally took this test my stats were (with probably 2 hours studying in between): REA Practice Test I: 52 REA Practice Test II: 58 Petersons Practice Test I: 61% Actual Test: 66 Assuming my results are typical, you should be fine. WCI was a bit easier than the practice tests, and you are passing the practice tests. What do you mean by "the program"? Western Civ. I: Am I ready? (Scaling questions) - Arthiel - 01-03-2011 These were my scores: Petersons 1: 39 REA 1: 45 REA 2: 50 Petersons 2: 55 Official Clep Guide: 59% Real Test: 65 I wouldn't have taken it with those scores but I couldn't reschedule it so I studied like CRAZY those last 3 days before the test. It paid off.

It probably wasn't necessary but it can't hurt to do some more review. Arthiel: That sounds pretty scary. Glad that you passed! Western Civ. I: Am I ready? Western Civ. I: Am I ready? (Scaling questions) - Arthiel - 01-03-2011 Haha yep, it was scary. I've never studied that hard before. But even during the test I thought it was possible I could fail. Which made the pass even better! But it's a good choice that you delayed it. It's always better to be safe than sorry. Now really focus on your weak areas. If you need any ideas of what to study or you want some links to helpful websites feel free to pm me. Good luck on Wednesday! Western Civ. I: Am I ready? (Scaling questions) - JSU - 01-04-2011 Is something wrong with my REA program? I just got 75% of the questions right on exam 2 giving a scaled score of 60. In the book itself it says that it scales to 75. Which is right? Western Civ. I: Am I ready? (Scaling questions) - Arthiel - 01-05-2011 Never trust the REA computer program... My scores are almost always a few points off in either direction. I always check with the formula in the book (even though it's still only an estimate): # correct - (1/4 x # incorrect) = RAW score Then follow the table in the book to find scaled score. But whether you got a 60 or a 75 it looks like you're ready to go! Western Civ. I: Am I ready? (Scaling questions) - JSU - 01-05-2011 Arthiel Wrote:Never trust the REA computer program... JSU, I might be too late, but I wanted to make sure that you know there are NO penalties for guessing/wrong answers on CLEP and DSST. (I haven't taken one for several months, but I don't think this has changed.) This means never leave any of the answers blank on the real exams. Best wishes on your exam! |
