Straighterline Macroeconomics Review - burbuja0512 - 12-31-2010

Hi All,

There's been a lot of talk about SL lately and so far I am finding that it's a great alternative to CLEP/DSST in some cases. Accounting has already been discussed, so I would like to write a review of the SL Macroeconomics course for those of you that are interested. Since I have also taken the Macro CLEP, I hope that my review will be helpful for those trying to choose between the two.

SL Macro is very detailed and in-depth. It's not difficult, but it will take you time to go through it. I started on it several days ago and am about halfway through the course, but keep in mind I work from home and have been totally ignoring my job to do nothing but study. I am in sales and already hit plan for the year, so it's ok Wink don't worry I won't get fired lol.

As mentioned in a previous review, SL has a total of 19, yes you read that correctly 19 exams! The bad news is that they do take time, the good news is that they're not all that tough. Each chapter has a test and the chapter tests are 40 questions long. I take a little under an hour to do each test, but you can take up to two hours if you need it. I am pretty familiar with Macroeconomics after studying for and almost passing the CLEP, I already learned a lot of what is being taught. Because of this, I have not needed all of the study material included with SL and have not used the SL Smarthinking tutor.

I took the mid-term last night and it was 60 questions with three hours given to complete. Almost all of the questions were word-for-word identical to the individual chapter tests, so it was EASY. Well.. I should say that it is easy as long as you've made sure to pay attention to which questions you've gotten right and wrong at the end of each chapter test.

So, who should take SL versus the Macro CLEP? Well.. lol if you're like me and fail the Macro CLEP, the choice is simple Smile . Otherwise, I would say that if you really have a hard time studying for the Macro CLEP and you want detailed explanations of the macro concepts, SL is probably a better choice. If you don't plan on ever using macro in your real-world jobs and feel comfortable with reviewing IC (and/or other resources), just take the CLEP, it will save time.

Hope this helps!
