In Soviet America, School Pays for You! - Maniac Craniac - 12-06-2010

I just got hired by a B&M. This means, other than joining april004 in the Excelsior Alumni Who Work On Campus For Traditional Colleges Club, that almost all of my waking time, whether at work, online, or worship, will be spent in school. Education has now, in as much of a literal sense as possible, actually become my life.

Oh yeah, and in a situation that only a few of you are familiar with, a school will be paying for me, rather than the other way around! :roflol:

As an hourly employee, rather than a salaried employee, I get no tuition benefit  but for a measly 25 hours of work per week, I get health insurance, paid vacation time, a full living wage (my Excelsior AA adds at least $7/hr :hurraySmile and access to the university library and fitness center! :coolgleam:

You better believe that I will be hitting up that library... the librarians will think I am a student rather than an employee. Oh, and you better believe I will be hitting up that fitness center!

OOOOh, and I get an email address, myrealname@theuniversityiworkfor.edu. That's pretty cool! In fact, I'm starting to think it is even cooler than when I had a myrealname@statethatilivein.gov address.

Congrats MC! :hurray:

I totally thought you were going somewhere else with that librarian part. :roflol:

$7/hr increase due to your degree? That's very impressive.

Well, plus a highly favorable evaluation of my skills :coolgleam:. However, without the degree, the increase would not have even been possible- I would have been in stuck in a lower pay bracket.

It's nice to get to see your degree translate into something so tangible. Congratulations!

congrats!
Isn't it cool to have that B &M email address?

Hee hee-I love giving that out to people. And I am in the staff directory and my own mailbox - lol.

Plus I received free gear and two cool U of C athletic jackets I have to wear when working.Only the athletes and coaches on campus have them so not even the other students have the jacket.

It's the little things that make me happy.

Enjoy being mistaken for a student maniac!

I admit, I am no longer being mistaken for a freshmen.

I am being mistaken for a grad student though!

You are obviously not an interpreter hilarious It is rare to find a full-time interpreter. If you do, that person most likely spends a large amount of the paid time not doing any actual interpreting.
