TESC 2nd degree question - skyfall123 - 12-04-2010 Has anyone retaken a DSST, ECE etc....and applied it to a second degree. In other words my son took DSST MIS when he earned his first degree. Now that course is shown on his new evaluation (for his 2nd degree) as OTHER CREDIT. Could he retake the exam and get new UL credit toward his 2nd degree if it can be applied to his area of study? I know it's really working the system, but isn't that what we all do. I'd be willing to bet that there's no way that'd work. Retaking the same exam? That'd be duplicating credit. I've never heard of the same course being accepted unless it's something intended for that (CPR, exercise "courses" for credit, etc.) More likely, if it's a requirement for the second degree, it needs to be pointed out to them that it's required so that they'll apply it in the correct place. TESC 2nd degree question - skyfall123 - 12-04-2010 I hear you Jake. He has already applied 9 credits from the first degree to the second degrees Area of Study (the limit)....and the old DSST MIS credit is not being applied to anything related to the second degree. It is currently categorized as OTHER CREDIT. So if new DSST MIS credit came in, would they take it ? TESC 2nd degree question - Lindagerr - 12-04-2010 When I signed up for my 2nd BA at TESC they told me I needed 30 "New credits" in the area of the degree(History) they took my one History class( History of Vietnam War) and placed it in the History electives, but that still left me needing 30. Since that time I added 6 new math credits. They reworked my degree plan putting those in but I still need 30 new history credits. They just listed all my other credits at the end as Other courses. I would think if a course is already listed at the end they would not give additional credit. If it is required for the degree then they shoul out it in and just require more Gen Ed electives. TESC 2nd degree question - skyfall123 - 12-04-2010 It isn't a degree requirement, but it is considered UL credit that can be applied to the degree....and it is 3 easy credits. I'm trying to figure all the options before we sign up for classes next week. Quote:If it is required for the degree then they should put it in and just require more Gen Ed electives. That would be ideal. TESC 2nd degree question - Yenisei - 12-04-2010 Geezer Wrote:I hear you Jake. That will be my fall back position. He already has 6 UL between Systems Analysis and a Networking course. I am going to appeal to get another course transcribed as UL (same course his brother took and got transcribed as UL). So in that situation he would have 9 UL without the DSST MIS. He is going to take the DSST Intro to Computers since TESC accepts that for COS-101, so I may have him just take the DSST MIS again and see if it flies. I think that'd be a waste of time and money: From the TESC catalog: Duplication of Credit Repeated courses will appear on the transcript marked as ârepeatsâ. Semester hours will only be assigned in the case of repeated Thomas Edison State College courses. Repeated transfer courses or assessment credit will appear as repeats with 0 semester hours assigned. OK that settles it. No way. Thanks Jake TESC 2nd degree question - sirjake - 12-04-2010 No problem. Glad to help. |
