COSC Students? - burbuja0512 - 11-10-2010 Helloooooo? I know I can't be the ONLY person enrolled at COSC on the board. Is there anyone else here?? Just wondering.... COSC Students? - rebel100 - 11-10-2010 I have applied to both COSC and EC. I don't like the way EC has done the initial assessment of my credit. The COSC advisor on the other hand seems (so far) to be really going that extra mile. He really seems to "get" what I'm trying to accomplish and has even led me to a degree track that maximizes my existing credit while gaining a degree that will be arguably more usefull to me than a plain BSLS (nothing wrong with a BSLS...just not a perfect choice for me). I will likely matriculate with COSC in January if things get worked out. COSC Students? - burbuja0512 - 11-10-2010 Woooo Hooooo!!!! Ok... I don't want to influence your decision, but I have posted many times on COSC customer service. They're great. I haven't taken the capstone class yet and won't until probably March, so I can't comment on that, but my advisor is the best! COSC Students? - azmats - 11-11-2010 I did enroll for COSC, great service, easy to contact; and you will know in advance what you will be getting from them, i rate best if you are not looking for any major as they do have concentration instead of major COSC Students? - burbuja0512 - 11-11-2010 azmats Wrote:I did enroll for COSC, great service, easy to contact; and you will know in advance what you will be getting from them, i rate best if you are not looking for any major as they do have concentration instead of majorVery Cool!!!! I am so excited I've already probably posted this like 15 times on the board, so sorry if you've heard this before, but my younger brother is a COSC alum, then went on to get his Master's at Texas A&M and is now working on his doctorate. He says that he has never had an issue with the concentration versus major question either at work or in getting into graduate programs. You can even view it as a positive... to borrow from the COSC website, a concentration allows for a more personalized program based on your specific goals. COSC Students? - Maniac Craniac - 11-11-2010 "concentration instead of a major" It's the same thing, but a different name. Even the COSC website calls it a major in a few places. I'm sure the nomenclature has something to do with some bureaucratic blah blah blah from some self-important body within their accreditor. I think my brain is fried from the American Govt test I took this evening, but this made me laugh hysterically. Reminding me of the teacher in those old Peanuts movies. wah wah wah wah wah wah... :roflol: COSC Students? - rebel100 - 11-12-2010 I definantley don't see the lack of a "major" as being much different from a generic major like "liberal studies". Also it's been mentioned many times here that a Batchelors in say Psychology does not provide even entry level training to enter the Psych field. So essentially that degree is just a Batchelors degree. For me I NEED the degree (any degree) to go to the next level in my career. Paramedicine/Firefighter is one of those career paths that don't require a degree.....but management or teaching in the field does. The generic degree will get my foot in the door.....then I can explain how great COSC was and how it made all the difference in shaping and molding me ...the applicant.....blah blah blah And in reality the COSC Advisor has just about convinced me to structure an independant degree path that blends Organizational Leadership with Health Care Management, it's a pretty perfect path really. I'm just waiting to see how he structures it and exactly how many courses I need......financing it and timeline are big factors.I know some need particular majors, but I think it's really a non issue for me. I went in thinking I wanted to do the business administration concentration and she helped me find something that suited me a little better (psychology) rebel100 Wrote:How did Am Gov Go ? Thanks for asking! I would recommend this test to anyone that needs the credit. It's not an easy test, but it was very interesting studying for it. DH and I both took it yesterday and both scored 65 (even though we were in separate testing rooms with totally different versions of the test lol), which we were happy with. A lot of memorization during studying, but overall not an extremely broad test, so with IC + Wikipedia, I felt like it was doable. The specific feedback was spot on. I had 90 questions in 100 minutes and the questions were long and often wordy, so if you're a slow reader, you'll really need to budget your time. Still, I finished in about an hour, but DH took almost entire allotted time. If you haven't met your govt requirement for COSC, you should go for it! |
