Any property managers or apartment managers? - taylor - 11-09-2010 I recently got a 2nd job managing a 20 unit apartment complex. I get free rent but there's a lot more work involved than I originally anticipated. The work is bearable and I like the fact that it doesn't interfere too much with my full time job, but am I getting underpaid? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! That many units is a solid part time position, I would expect 20-25 hours a week on average for pm work. Maintenance I would expect to be full time on that many units (less if they are newer of course). If rent runs, say, $1500 / month, and you're putting in 20 hours / week, that'd put compensation at $18.75 an hour. Don't know what you do as part of the job but the apartment managers at my old complex sat around surfing the web all day while letting calls go to voicemail. Now that I've been at it for a few months, it's a piece of cake...although I would never let the landlord know that. Actually, this job would be harder to replace than my full time job. As a matter of fact, I just replaced my full time job with another higher paying job working for a Fortune 100 company which I start at the end of the month. I feel like my hard work has been paying off the last few months.
