How Close Am I ?..............Degree Plan Help - fuzzair - 11-02-2010 I think I am finally back on track to complete my degree. I took (COOKDEROSA) Jennifer's advice and re-evaluated my school choices for completing my degree. This was a while back. I am leaning toward a BA in Liberal Studies with TESC. I may still pursue a Criminal Justice degree, but I was hoping to take the path of least resistance. I have a significant amount of credits, but I am just not sure where to apply them!! Any help would be appreciated. I may still be lacking upper division credits......depends on TESC and how my credits are applied. Thanks for the help. I have looked at this degree with another forum member. It appears that the Gen Ed electives and Liberal Studies Area of Study need to be chosen from Humanities, Social Sciences, History, Natural Sciences and Mathematics categories. Be sure to find out, if your choices will work. (Is this how TESC listed them on your evaluation?) Also, the UL requirements have changed for this degree in the Liberal Studies Area of Study section. 6 credits - 100 level 9 credits - 200 level 18 credits - 300 level Thomas Edison State College | BA in Liberal Studies Credit Distribution I see that you have looked at COSC, too. I don't know how your credits would transfer, but I wonder if you have looked at EC. Their BSLS would allow you to use 60 Applied Professional (free elective) credits. Here is a template, which Alissa put together, for the BS in Liberal Studies at Excelsior: http://www.degreeforum.net/62322-post10.html Note: There is a new capstone course requirement for this degree and the GRE policy has changed. If you do this, they will do a free credit evaluation. This is really (really!) a good way to figure out where your general education electives and free electives will fall. AOJ/CJ are fuzzy - you'll see people here where they have fallen in one, but not the other. I have not yet wrapped my brain around how that field's credit distribution works. What did I suggest when we talked- I can't imagine I suggest the liberal arts degree with your credit history - the bulk of your credit isn't in liberal arts...I can't imagine I've ever suggest that degree, maybe I did. I'm getting old- and I'm studying for stats, so mostly just mush going on upstairs right now. Can you argue /convince someone that you can merge the fields of AOJ and Aviation? If so, you might be able to pull off the easiest degree of all - the Learner Designed Area of Study. Thomas Edison State College | Learner Designed Area of Study (LDAS) I'd SERIOUSLY think hard about this, if you can sell it you can do it. IS there such a field? Is there any way you can (already have) merged these two disciplines in your life? Look at it and see what you think. It's kinda new. If you could pull together an aviation-AOJ degree, then everything free elective (your list plus what I have in red) gets moved over to your major. It'd mean you were only short English. You recommended I consider other options than what I originally posted Cookderosa, You are great! I would have never considered combining the two! As a matter of fact, I am a helicopter pilot for a large municipal police department assigned to the airborne law enforcement unit. I have been a pilot for over eight years, with additional time as an airborne tactical flight officer (observer). I have been a police officer for over 22 years. What a perfect fit. Not having a degree has bugged me for a very long time. You might have just given me a HUGE piece of information that will make my goal a reality. If necessary, I could do a pla for some of the upper div aviation units (helicopter) and law enforcement units .?? AM I REALLY THAT CLOSE??? You recommended I consider other options than what I originally posted That DOES sound like a perfect fit! I'd call TESC today, you won't get any hard information, but you could poke around a little more about the LDA and what's involved. You might also post an open question here and over at DegreeInfo. It's possible that on one of the two boards SOMEONE has already done some homework into that degree. I'm super excited that this might work for you!!
