Best deal/cost analysis/ big 3 for AA/AS... - Mamasaphire - 10-28-2010

...to transfer in all credits & graduate from?

I decided that since I am still stuck at an AA level of credits (I have 61.5 B&M, 6 Clep, 3 DSST, and a few FEMAS with the hopes of starting up testing again in the future if I can...), I'd like to go ahead & just get my AA/AS *now* and then whenever the time comes when I have enough credits saved up, I can do the BA/BS.

Any thoughts on the best, most inexpensive deal?

I spoke with TESC, and was told it will cost the $75.00 application, and then $3057.00 enrollment & graduation.

It looks like COSC would be the $75 plus 1670.00...

could that be correct? That much less?

And then, once the AA is mine, will most colleges take it towards a BA? I tried the search function on that one and am not coming up with much...

TIA!!

If you'd like to add EC to the comparison:

application fee – $75
enrollment fee – $895
graduation fee – $495
Total is less than $1500

(FEMA credits cost extra to transfer to EC and COSC. If you reenroll at EC within 1 year, the discounted re-enrollment fee is $440. Plus about $1000 for the EC capstone course for a bachelor's degree.)

Here are the requirements:

Associate in Arts at Excelsior College – 60 credits

General Education for AA – 12 credits in two areas and 9 credits in one area

Humanities
Social Sciences/History
Math/Natural Sciences

Written English Requirement – 3 credits

Information Literacy – 1 credit

Arts and Sciences – 12 credits

Arts and Sciences/Applied Professional – 11 credits

An optional Area of Focus is awarded with 15 credits in a single Arts and Sciences discipline.

These associate degrees should fit well into a bachelor's degree plan at EC. A bachelor's degree at EC requires 2 depths and 30 UL credits including a capstone course.

You have a lot of B&M credits, so transferring now to another bachelor's program could work okay (no matter what you decide about an associate degree). If you use a lot of exam or FEMA credits to finish your bachelor's degree, transferring out of the Big 3 will be harder to do. Remember that a bachelor's degree program gets to choose the requirements for all 120 credits, not just the last 60 credits.

Thank you NAP!

So from what the TESC admissions guy said, I should enroll under a BA/BS program, and then after I am "in", I would get apply for the AA... does that sound right for any of the Big 3?

And once I have an AA from one of the Big 3, I would/wouldn't be able to use those same credits towards a BA at a different one of them?

Alissa & Cookderosa helped me come up with a BA plan quite a while ago... I am wondering if/how it would need to be tweaked with this change of plans...?

BricaBrac recently told me about the opportunity to get more than one degree at TESC for one year's enrollment fee. This is different than how EC does it. Here is the info: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-thomas-edison-charter-oak-specific/11801-tesc-asba-bsba.html#post86652

They have different Gen Ed Requirements, but you should be able to go with the Big 3 school that works best for you to complete your bachelor's degree and use the credits from a Big 3 associate degree.

If you can find it for me, I'll take a look to see if anything has changed recently or if this changes anything.
