"Must include at least two subject areas" Question - Paul - 10-27-2010

The TESC Associate in Arts degree plan states the Humanities requirement is 12 credits and "Must include at least two subject areas". Are American Literature (6 credits) and Analyzing and Interpreting Literature (6 credits) two subject areas?
Thanks!

I do not believe so. But you can take those two tests and then take Technical Writing which is very easy as well. That would make 9 LIT credits + 3 credits for ENG-201, fulfilling the requirement.

Do you mean for the general part of the degree (the basics everyone has to take)? Because I have the Analyzing and Interpreting Lit and Humanities CLEPs in that section on my Liberal Arts transcript.

If you're talking about the upper level (UL) or lower level (LL) credits specific to your degree, that will be different, but the UL requires 18 credits and the LL 15.

"Must include at least two subject areas" Question - Lyanne - 10-28-2010

According to my TESC Course Equivalency chart, Analyzing and Interpreting Literature is LIT 291/292 and American Literature is LIT 111/112. Since they are both designated LIT, I would say no. Under Humanities, other choices are French, German, Humanities (General) and Spanish.
All of the DSST Humanities choices are possibilities for a second subject as none of those equivalencies are designated as LIT courses.
Hope this helps.

I would say take CLEP Humanities, and A&I Literature. Do Humanities first because there's a lot of overlap in A&I Lit. After taking Humanities, A&I Lit. seemed like a walk in the park.

By the way, what's your degree? I'm not entirely sure, but like "studyingathome" said, the area course level could change what courses will work.
