Not done with mine yet, but merely working on it has gained me some respect at work.

I don't have mine yet, but it will do the same thing as any other degree would do. Unless you're going to an Ivy League school, the Big 3 degree should be identical to any other BS or BA from any other college. What having a degree generally means is that you have met one of many requirements of getting hired at a decent job.

Earning my rate related (Navy jargon) AAS has earned me more respect at work and 2 points on any future promotion test and also made me eligible to apply to flight school (new Navy program). The BA will open even more doors!

EDIT: There was a a gentleman on this forum that got into a top 30 law school after getting his big 3 degree. Search law school on here and you should be able to find that thread.

I want to say it helped me get selected for promotion to E8 Master Sergeant way ahead of my peers. I could apply for Officer school but I enjoy being senior enlisted, training those young Lieutenants and Captains.

It gave me something bigger to put on my wall than my high school diploma. Big Grin

Actually, now that I have it, I think its time for me to renegotiate my contracts. Experience + degree should get me a nice rate increase, probably over $5/hr. I'll report back to this thread when the ink is dry, and try to break down just how much the degree helped.

Either way, it marks my halfway point and gives me something to look at, and show off, that shows that I am making progress toward the bigger goal. I am now no longer degreeless, and no matter what the heck happens, even if my whole life goes awry and I never get the BA, no one can take at least that away from me. That's really nice, indeed!

Mine has gotten me an invitation to fill a teaching position at an NA B&M school. (And its not even teaching the subject my degree is in, but the stuff that I've got my professional experience in... Shrug.. It's money.)

Where did my big 3 degree get me? Wouldn't be @ U of Chicago without it. Granted, a personal trainer job does not require a degree, just a certification. But for U of C, I had to have my degree(in anything!) just to get interviewed, even with my personal training certification.

I know I've mentioned that the organization I received my certificate from gives college credit(through Ace). Also ISSA is another place to get a personal training cert. Accredited by the DETC..

my BA is in Social Science from TESC in 2008. I'm applying to med school, I'll let you know. In the mean time, I did gain acceptance into 2 nursing programs and the 3 B&M grad schools I applied to. (I declined all 5, but I got accepted.)
