Hrlp!! Anyone who has done hiring is this normal??????? - Lindagerr - 10-18-2010 My husband has been out of work now for 17 months and we(mostly me) are getting really worried. Back araound August 15 a former friend advisor and coworker at the old Comp. (We will call them AIG) called my husband and said he handed in My dh resume to a manager at his new Company MTG. The old friend is a VP at MTG so this was seen with some warryness. After a couple pf days THe immediate boos to my hisband at MTG and that mans boss both called for phone interviews, each going on over an hour. Then they asked my DH to talk to the person now doing the job in PA. This person would be working with DH for ~a year then we would have to move to colorodo. So DH arranges to talk to this guy on a bad, day at a bad time to try to get the ball rolling it had already been 2-3 weeks since the first talk of this position. So then we were going out of the country for 1 week, DH gets a call to come out yo colorodo for in person talks with boss and his boos. we set it up for just 2 days after we got back from Europe. He goes and has great meetings. He was supposed to meet with the PA guy Monday or Tuesday of the next week. No one gets back to us. Finally after much phone calls and e-mail we find out people have been out of the country or in Texas on business. Finally on Friday Boss E-mails and days he wants to talk to hubby on Monday. It is set up for him to call. Then the guy from PA finally gets back to us and he wants hubby to drive to Philly Wed. so they can talk. Today, no one calls no one e-mails and nothing is heard from anyone at MTG/ So at this point the phone interviews have been more then a month ago, the trip to Colorodo was close to a month ago and we still don't know if he has the job or not. I think MTG is just Yanking his chain and they can't get together and make a discision to save thier lives. I find the lack of follow up and the long breaks in communication to be rude and thoughtless. So my main question is what is the maximum amount of time it is fair to string a person along about a job. Is there no common courtesy remaining in the business world. I would really like to hear what those of you who do hiring think about this thing. Hrlp!! Anyone who has done hiring is this normal??????? - GoodtoGo - 10-19-2010 I'm sure that must be very frustrating for you. I can share with you my personal experience. I have been with my current company a little over 2 years now. It was a good four months from my first interview until I was hired. Between the various levels of management that I met with, my "business plan" for the location, non compete clauses to agree too... .it was a long process, but I am happy with the outcome. Hang in there. It also sometimes takes longer if it is a new position, rather than a replacement position. Hrlp!! Anyone who has done hiring is this normal??????? - alleycat - 10-20-2010 Sorry to hear about this Linda. Some people/companies just lack in social graces. See they all have jobs already and its no big deal to them. I just do not understand why this PA guy is so important in the great big picture. Who makes the final call on new highers? I hate to say it he is just gonna have to sit tight. You cant push. But I would keep looking if I were him. Just in case. Good Luck Hrlp!! Anyone who has done hiring is this normal??????? - blu2blu - 10-26-2010 Don't ever apply for a government job, especially in law enforcement. A 1 - 2 year wait with very little communication is common. A few blessed folks can make it through in less than 6 months (even for non-LE), but probably not right now... Hrlp!! I wouldn't say "NEVER" as sometimes good things come to those who wait. Case-in-point, I took the NYPD exam (30+ years ago) and it took nearly 2-years to receive my appointment. Long time - yes, worth the wait (in the long run) yes too. [COLOR="Navy"] As to the OP, hang in there and just keeping looking, (waiting ![]() Hrlp!! Anyone who has done hiring is this normal??????? - marianne202 - 10-26-2010 Linda, We had a similar thing happen to my hubby several years ago. We paid for flights to Atlanta, had a realtor looking for houses, investigating neighborhoods and even getting prices from movers when after 4 months of phone interviews and 2 visits to Atlanta from AZ for interviews he was told they were just formulating a hire list for the next 24 months. This was with MCI, a huge company in the industry at the time. I would have him call them back and inquire about when they expect to make a decision and what the expected start date would be. That way he can make them set a timeline for themselves if they are just taking their sweet time. It will also let him know if they are just formulating a hire list for future positions. It sounds like they are pretty committed to the position and him, but maybe they are just slow. For my students when they try to get into the large hospitals here, it typically takes 3-4 months from interview to hear you are hired. So, if this decision requires several people in different departments at different levels it may take a long time to get everyone together on the same page. I know what it is like to be anxious after a long period of unemployment, but keep everything crossed and have him keep in contact with them so they know he is still interested and to keep his name in the front of the mind. Good luck and keep us posted! Hrlp!! Anyone who has done hiring is this normal??????? - Lindagerr - 10-26-2010 They finally came up with an offer. :hurray: It is not what we expected, but it works for now. He is being hired by a new Co. (we will call NAG). This is confusing but negotiations are going great and if it all works out this will turn into a regular job for MTG at some time in the future. So we will not have to go bankrupt and if he can start real soon I will not even have missed 1 bill payment in over 17 months of his unemployment. Of course we owe lots of credit cards lots of money, but I will settle for that. Thank you to all who sent there good wishes. Hrlp!!
