TESC Capstone - PsychTestOut - 07-19-2010

I'm curious if anyone actually did this, if so, I have a few questions.

Nobody? Curious about the mentor too, if I go this route. She has mixed reviews but no TESC reviews.

If you are referring to LIB-495 Liberal Arts Capstone (within the Psychology degree Thomas Edison State College | BA in Psychology Credit Distribution) many probably have not taken it because it has been "strongly recommended" not required. Easier to take a 3cr course/test instead.

I've read reviews on the TESC community blackboard - from the discussion board page enter capstone in the search box, do not choose a timeframe, just click go. It will bring up all discussion on the subject even within subconversations.

Here's one review:
"I took this class for the April 2010 semester. Only approximately 4 students were able to complete the class without extending. It is a lot of work so I would not take the class with a full course load. If you are working it's a good class to take by itself. It is a lot of work, but it is very educational and will prepare you for Master's education. Dr. Haydel is terrific and will give you all the help you need. She is very open door and willing to take your call. As stated earlier, she is the best mentor I've had at TESC so far."

Ah, I never even looked for an official forum there. Thank you. I know it will be a lot of work but it's my major and I'm gunning for grad school, so I'm thinking it may be good to do. I'll be doing it while finishing another class and planning at least two DSSTs. Will still need to get in two more after that I think to finish this year. All I can do is give it the old college try :-)

Hmm, I'm interested in doing a capstone also. I'm not sure why, other than that I like hands-on projects. And I'm a nerd. lol. If it will end up delaying my degree then there's no way I'm doing it, but if not I'd prefer it to a regular class. Does it fit in as an elective in the degrees that it isn't required?

That's a very nice view to take on the coursework. I'm sure you will do well. Best wishes to you in completely your degree!!

That's what we are discussing. For the psych degree it is strongly recommended, meaning not required. It looks as though the criminal justice program is the same (Thomas Edison State College | BA in Criminal Justice Credit Distribution ); the student can make the choice whether to take the course or not.

In certain degree programs the capstone is a requirement.

I have an email into advising to make sure I will get a psych elective credit for it. Everyone cross your fingers for me here. That is how I read it on the distribution, but then I figured I better check. Hope I didn't shoot myself in the foot here. I still have to take 2 DSSTs, an epack and TECEP (and a partridge in a pear tree :-)) before the end of the year. If this class doesn't count I'll have to add something else to the mix too in addition to this class :-(

In case anyone was wondering it will go under my psych credits. So, I'd imagine if you were majoring in something else, it would go under that specific major area.
