Humanities Vs Art of Western World - quasy1014 - 05-22-2010

I need 2hrs of Art and I can either Clep out of Humanites (6hr) or Dantes's Art of the Western World (3hr). I was going to go with the Dantes but there are no IC questions for the Arts test. I looked over the Humanites and I'm comfortable with about 1/2 of it. Has anybody taken both test and can give some guidence on which one is least challenging? Thanks.

I think that they are both pretty challenging. Now this video series from Annenberg will help you with Art of the Western World test Resource: Art of the Western World
The videos are older but very interesting. Did you go on the DSST website and take a look at their sample test yet?
Have you looked at the REA book for the Humanities exam? That should help you. But all in all I think they are both pretty tough exams if you do not have a back ground in the subject. My daughter has considered taking the Humanities exam because her college awards 8 credits for it.

For me art was easier. I recommend the Annenburg videos plus AP's Art History textbook, matched up with the DSST fact sheet.

Both exams are challenging. If you have a big strength in an area like lit, music, or philosophy I would suggest Humanities. If you are strong in Art then .....

Just took both of these in the past couple of weeks. I didn't find Humanities all that difficult, probably because the test is SO broad. I used the REA Humanities book, and it, along with the helpful info from folks on this forum, prepared me well. I don't think I would have passed Art of the Western World nearly as easily had I not taken Humanities first. That said however, they are both very doable tests.
