PC Laptop Suggestions - PonyGirl93 - 05-10-2010 So, I'm buying a laptop once I earn a few more paychecks Right now I'm looking at the Dell Inspiron 15 (4GB RAM & 500 GB hard drive) for $600. I thought I'd get some outside input on what laptops you folks like [: MUST have at least 4GB of RAM & preferably 300+ hard drive, although I'll settle for a 250 if I must. PC Laptop Suggestions - PonyGirl93 - 05-10-2010 Ohhhh I'm really liking this Gateway, too: http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668466.php PC Laptop Suggestions - wb.john - 05-10-2010 I'm a netbook fan. You can find an 8.9in EEE PC on Craigslist for like $100. I think laptops should be small and desktop computers should be big. I don't think trying to mix the two in a 'desktop replacement' laptop works well. PC Laptop Suggestions - PonyGirl93 - 05-10-2010 Haha I'm not at all a netbook fan I hardly would call a 15" laptop a desktop equivalent :p I dislike the netbook's mixing of a smartphone & laptop PC Laptop Suggestions - cookderosa - 05-10-2010 PonyGirl93 Wrote:So, I'm buying a laptop once I earn a few more paychecks Right now I'm looking at the Dell Inspiron 15 (4GB RAM & 500 GB hard drive) for $600. My only complaint about Dell (our house has 3 of them and 1 before) is that the hinges BREAK! We were 4 for 4 on hinge breaking. Also, if you want tech or service you'll be speaking with someone in India, "accent" is an understatement. My new laptop is Toshiba large screen and has a long center hinge that goes almost the length of the screen- VERY nice. I have a 6GB RAM with 500 GB hard drive, an 18 1/5 inch screen (I watch a lot of tv on mine) and integrated webcam. It was on sale for $700 at Best Buy. PC Laptop Suggestions - alleycat - 05-10-2010 We love our Toshiba laptops in our family. I always look for sales at places like BestBuy or Toshiba online. I just purchased another one this fall for a great price and I will be purchasing another one this summer. PC Laptop Suggestions - Farmerboy - 05-10-2010 If you can afford it Macbooks are really nice! You get what you pay for with Apple, quality electronics. PC Laptop Suggestions - jmichelle79 - 05-14-2010 I like tigerdirect.com I buy a lot of hardware there. I have bought a few laptops also. You can read the reviews which is nice. Under $200 and works alot better than most laptops and desktops. Only negative is no cdrom but buying external. They don't like Macs (geeks generally don't), but such computers are excellent for students who don't program and are very high quality. (I have my own quibbles with Apple which I won't go into here.) My laptop is a Dell XPS M1330 (13.3" screen). I've had it for almost a year and I'm very pleased with it. The best way to use Dell's customer service is to use the internet chat feature. When I had a mouse button go flat they responded very well and sent a guy out to fix it in a couple days. The netbook thing is a matter of taste. I'm not adverse to buying one, but I probably won't make the investment unless I need one for work or something of that nature. Craigslist is a viable option if you live in a populous area. My best friend snagged a nice Mac for a very reasonable price via Craigslist. Hope you find something that suits you! R. |
