RE: Edgewood College/UpGrad DBA; potentially $11,250 - qatrium - 06-12-2024 Hello everyone, This forum has been instrumental for me to decide on the dual MBA/DBA program at Edgewood College. I'm blocking the payment tonight through their SplitIt facility. I'm living in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The final cost of the course will be 15,000 USD after the scholarship discount. S RE: Edgewood College/UpGrad DBA; potentially $11,250 - lidel - 07-06-2024 Hi again. Here's my latest doctoral program update. Course#4 is now completed and marked. The course was Quantitative Analysis 1. It was heavily stats-based, dealing with manipulating data through matrix calculations, regressions, etc. The instructor and his videos were good, though the detail on the math sometimes made my eyes cross a little. The introduction videos to some of the base concepts (not by him) were horrible. There was no course text provided so much of the theory had to be investigated on our own or derived from the lectures, kind of a drag to have to rewatch a 40 minute video four times to figure something out. The professor said in future he will provide a text (I think it was an oversight). He was the first professor who provided an office hours meeting to answer questions. Time spent on this course was about the same as past courses. Grading seemed a little harsh and very little feedback was given. There is no indication who graded the work, but my instinct is it was a TA by the comment's consistent errors in the spelling, and this professor doesn't come across as that type of person. Overall, it was a good learning experience. I'm a couple of weeks into course 5, which is on qualitative analysis. The Dean is the instructor again and it's fairly clear that things are building towards a dissertation, with coursework laddering from one course to the next in hopes of having us hit the ground running after the final course. It feels like we will be getting more support as we get closer to the dissertation phase. I have no verification, but I feel a good number of the cohort has dropped significantly; Only five students turned in a group discussion assignment for this last course, but when the program started on January 1, we had 13 students submitting work in the first course. The coursework is very doable if you are diligent in your work. If anything, Edgewood is getting better as things progress (maybe linked to the class size decrease?), though UpGrad is consistently poor to work with. I've been working with UpGrad since April for something minor and they keep spinning me in circles like a top. This last week they told me it would be another 40 days for resolution. I had some questions for one of their TA's...once again no response to messages. If anyone has ever had a large company or public utility get completely outsourced to cheap labour.....well...that is how UpGrad feels. I've even gone so far as to ask them to stop communicating with me unless it is directly related to a course. Though there are bumps along the way, I'm still enjoying the program and learning a lot. See you all in about six weeks for the rundown on course number five! RE: Edgewood College/UpGrad DBA; potentially $11,250 - lidel - 08-17-2024 Hey everyone. I just finished course #5 and wanted to give another quick update. This last course was on qualitative analysis. It was heavy on reading, very dry stuff, but fairly informative. The instructor was the Dean, and as always, her instructional videos and quizzes were excellent at bringing together the information presented in the materials. The final assignment built well on previous course content. The final marking was a little vague, just a grade and a line or two of input. I met with the Dean one-on-one to discuss the Doctoral program in general and provide student feedback. It shed a lot of light on the direction we will be going and what has happened to this point. Each course now offers at least one live group office hours Zoom call. Dr. Palmisano acknowledged that our cohort had a rough start, and they have since redesigned the first course to address those issues. Overall, it was a very positive meeting, and I am optimistic about the remaining courses and dissertation. UpGrad is still UpGrad. They mean well but often needlessly overcomplicate things. I just engage them as little as possible. I'm enjoying the program and can't believe how fast the time is flying! Okay. I'll see you all in about six weeks for input on the next course. Have a great day. S |
