Intro to Sociology is even considered diversity/global literacy. I hope that's true. That is an important point. I think that test, in particular, is going to increase in popularity because of that new requirement. TESC Overhauling Gen Ed Reqs. I took the bare minimum of 12 credits. *raises hand* If you are willing to accept a computer science course as a science credit, then I have 30 math & science credits in the gen eds of my decidedly non-STEM TESC degree. (And I have 6 more science credits in my area of study, plus 1 credit from my biology lab that got dropped to my free electives for lack of any other place to plug it in.) TESC Overhauling Gen Ed Reqs. Not enrolled, watch out! - LaceyLady - 04-10-2013 Here is an updated list of possible exams that can be taken to fulfill the new requirements. It has not been confirmed with TESC yet, so please confirm with TESC before taking exams for the new requirements. Let me know if anyone has suggestions to improve this list. 1.) Intellectual and practical skills (15 credits) 3 credits in composition -CLEP College Composition 3 credits in writing intensive course work - CLEP College Composition 3 credits in math - any math exam 6 credits in intellectual and practical skills electives - CLEP Info. Systems and Computer App., DSST Intro. to Computing, DSST Management Info. Systems, DSST Technical Writing, DSST Prin. of Public Speaking, DSST Prin. of Statistics, ECE Interpersonal Communication, ECE Workplace Communication with Computers? or any math exam 2.) Human cultures and the physical and natural world through study in areas including the sciences and mathematics, social sciences, humanities, histories, languages and the arts (18 credits) 3 credits in social sciences - any social science: history, psychology, sociology, economics, etc. 3 credits in natural sciences - any natural science: - biology, chemistry, physics, computer science, etc. 3 credits in humanities - any humanities: - literature, art, English, communication, religion, etc. 9 credits in human cultures and the physical world electives - additional credits in any of above areas: social science, natural science, or humanities 3.) Personal and social responsibility (9 credits) 3 credits in diversity/global literacy - CLEP Introductory Sociology, DSST Intro to World Religions, DSST Introduction to the Modern Middle East, DSST General Anthropology, DSST Human/Cultural Geography, ECE Cultural Diversity, ECE World Conflicts Since 1900?, or ECE World Population 3 credits in responsible and ethical leadership - DSST Ethics in America, DSST Business Ethics and Society, ECE Ethics: Theory & Practice, or ECE Business Ethics 3 credits in personal and social responsibility elective - an exam in any of above areas (diversity/global literacy or responsible and ethical leadership) The new requirements are less stringent than I originally thought and can be satisfied by exams (they are also less stringent than colleges and universities I am familiar with). I hope this helps clear up the new requirements and the exams that can be taken to satisfy them. TESC Overhauling Gen Ed Reqs. Not enrolled, watch out! - jenniferhc - 04-11-2013 sanantone Wrote:That's one person. What is your major? Liberal Studies. I used a "back door" method to get my teaching certification here in Florida, which grants 3-year temp certificates to people with non-teaching degrees, as long as they have x amount of credits in certain subjects, and a minimum GPA in those subjects. In my case, I wanted certification in both mathematics and science, so it worked out better for me to get the liberal studies degree - that way I had enough credits in both subjects. I just thought it was funny you asked. I hadn't ever really thought about it because I was always thinking in terms of total credits per subject overall, not where those credits happened to be applied. (Gen ed vs. Concentration.) I will say I am *seriously* disappointed that TESC has dropped the science and math requirements to only 3 credits in each. I liked their previous, more balanced approach of 12 credits in the core subject areas. I'm going to have to be overly optimistic and hope most students choose more maths and sciences as electives. ![]() TESC Overhauling Gen Ed Reqs. Not enrolled, watch out! - Can219 - 04-26-2013 I currently have English Comp 151, 152 and 153 completed from my previous degree; Do you think these will suffice for the English comp and English writing intensive course for the NEW gen ed requirements? Tesc is pretty liberal so I'm hoping they will count..what do you think? TESC Overhauling Gen Ed Reqs. Not enrolled, watch out! - Mhamilton5 - 04-29-2013 From what I am reading, is it safe to assume most of the BSBA requirements at TESC will not be effected? Is the capstone required? I am just attempting to put a plan in place and decide if applying before any changes take place would even help me. I have about 70 credits and doubt I can complete the rest in 6 months. I would love any feedback or suggestions on how I should approach this. |
