That's why I felt that some would want to supplement ALEKS with a textbook or internet searching. Nevertheless, ALEKS takes the pain out of tracking progress and for those of us who just want to brush up on skills, it's fantastic. By brushing up, I don't want to give the impression that it's a quick process. Depending on your skill, that may still take a considerable amount of time using ALEKS. Jennifer, you don't have the facility to assign multiple subjects to one student at any given time. You could create two account for one student but then you'll have to pay two subscription fees. That won't work if you intend to use ALEKS for credit, as you'll need to have the same name listed for both accounts taking different subjects, which I'm guessing won't work. So technically, you can do it but only by switching the assigned subject from the master account. I'm guessing you already used your trial period of ALEKS, perhaps you can manage another trial (through your husband's name or by requesting it directly from ALEKS), you'll be able to test it yourself and see what I'm talking about. Maybe there's a better way around it, I'd contact ALEKS with same concern (taking multiple subjects simultaneously). Where do I look for these courses on the ACE website - what company is it listed under? Thanks much, Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - mickeloaf - 06-15-2008 I had the same problem. They appear to have a different URL for actual course searchers. Here is the link: https://www.acenet.edu/nationalguide/ Good Luck! Out of the three they will accept only ALEK-003 (College Algebra) for credit. Aleks is not for the faint of heart. It is VERY thorough! Zefrench, Two questions- Are you going to try the behavioral science or business stats? I ask because I wonder about the overlap- it couldn't possibly take you another 45 hours, yet I assume these would be non-duplicating credits. Just curious! Also, have you experienced any trouble getting the people at ALEKS to submit your paperwork to ACE? Do they act like they understand the process? Are they happy to help, or do they seem annoyed at the process? I ask because I wonder if this is they way they intended for the users to earn credit (not likely). I am 99% sure that my oldest son will be using ALECKS for his math this year- he is pretty excited! Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - cookderosa - 06-20-2008 I confirmed with ALECKS today that you can only take 1 course at a time for the $20 fee. If you wanted to take 2 (ie. statistics and algebra) you would have to pay an additional $20 per course per month. Once a course is completed, you can go on to any new courses, but they are only one at a time. I noticed they have chemistry, I am waiting to hear if they will get the chemistry course ACE evaluated. For a non-lab course it might fit the bill! I do not know what category these would fall into (Humanity? Social Science? Natural Science?) As far as getting them to submit paper, they were not used to it,thus it took a little time. They now have the process performed electronically, thus it should very straightforward, without having to interact with ALEKS support. (The whole process is performed on the ACE web site, process documentation to be updated over the next few days) |
