Oh gosh this is yet another Annoying Strayer Thing[TRADE MARK SIGN]️ that I forgot about. It's a consequence of their obsessive hand-holding nature that I mentioned earlier. They don't trust their students to get everything figured out and try to just do it all themselves. When I was telling the dean how I had already sent in all my transcripts, he said "sounds like you're one of those people who started climbing from the top of the tree." LOL.
As soon as I had an icampus login and knew I was in their system, I went everywhere and manually ordered transcripts myself. By the time my admissions rep was working on the transcript requests, the registrar had already downloaded what I sent in.
They must not have very high opinions of their students.

They definitely have more of an "insert money, get degree" vibe going on than other schools. I have to say, it's not exactly bad if you're that type of student. You know PRECISELY how much you're going to pay; there are no surprises as long as you don't fail a class. All you have to do is study. I can see why some students might like this method. It just happens to be terribly limiting for the kind of people on this forum.

Whoo Hoo! I just passed the BUS 405: Labor Relations challenge exam. I do have to say that I have been a local union president for 8 years and have negotiated three collective bargaining agreements, so I am probably not a good person to assess the difficulty of this exam. The exam was composed of 50 multiple choice questions and the time was, I think 150 minutes. So time pressure was not an issue at all.
Just going back through my study notes, there were questions about the product market, declining union density, the AFL-CIO, employment at will/common law, the Haymarket Riot/8 Hour Day, the Wagner Act, the Clayton Act, the LMRA, the NLRA/NLRB, federal/state jurisdiction in terms of contract law, preemption doctrine, Norris-LaGuardia Act, the AFL-CIO executive council vs convention, closed-shop vs open-shop, business strategies to avoid/suppress unions, obstacles to international union strategies vs. multinational corporations (MNC's), the four stages of grievance processing, the magnifier effect of wage increases, mandatory bargaining subjects, distributive bargaining, interest based bargaining, mutual gain bargaining, cost of living formulas in wage negotiation, premium pay, wage reopeners, arbitration vs mediation, strike procedures, fact finding, administrative investigations, power relationships.
I felt that probably 20 of the questions could be answered by simple reasoning within the question and the rest required actual knowledge of the subject matter. A pass is 70%, so that is 35 correct out of 50. I scheduled the exam this morning, pulled up some practice sets this morning and read them at odd times during the day.
Good to get the first pass out of the way. My first failure on the contemporary international issues exam had me a bit concerned.

Access to your classes opens today! I've started going through the stuff for WRK 100 since there is no escaping that one, haha. From what I've seen so far, it's silly that Sophia's College Readiness doesn't translate to WRK 100 but oh well.

Right. I'm not doing the discussion until tomorrow. I'm just downloading the instructions for the 3 assignments that are later on, watching the intro videos, and reading the text.
For WRK 100 (at least with Prof. Catherine), you can get 50 or so extra credit points by logging in every day and answering the question of the day. M-F every week. It appears to be a common Strayer thing. I like that idea.

Update: My first two successful challenge exams are now showing up under the Test Credits section at the bottom of the Transfer Credit Report page on iCampus, along with the English placement test. It appears as if the real test score is actually reported there.
Now for the bad news: Strayer treats challenge exam credits like transfer credits in their systems, and the same problems apply. As feared, exam credits that cannot be placed within your degree plan are recorded as "Equivalency rule not found", and are not placed on the transcript. This is a major bummer. I'm still optimistic that recovery of these credits may be possible after the free term by asking the registrar to place you on an undetermined major and reprocess received credits. Additionally, because test credits are shown on the (unofficial) transcript under the transfer credits section, and not the undergraduate record section, I am unsure whether other institutions will accept them.
The CIS170 exam did apply to the BSIT as an elective. Unfortunately, I cannot tell what the other listed exam is. I know it's either CIS109 or CRJ105, but the test credits section only shows a "test component" ID that I can't reference to anything. Only exams successfully mapped to a course in the degree plan list the equivalent credit.
I am about to send a transcript off to TESU to see if they'll pick up CIS170 at least.

It's good that you're testing this out (and for free). It's a bummer that they aren't putting the exam credit in your Free Electives area (or whatever they call it at their school). Doesn't make much sense to not count them as such if they offer the exam.

That's one thing I don't understand about Strayer. Degrees do have an elective area. You can use this area to "develop a minor". From what I can tell in the catalog, an IT person can have a business minor or a criminal justice minor. There don't seem to be any restrictions on that end. So, not being able to dump random challenge exams into electives seems mindboggling to me.

I enrolled as "undergraduate undeclared."
I checked and the two challenge exams that I completed are listed in my transfer credit report as you described. I was sooo close on the contemporary politics exam. I scored 68 and, I think, that 70 is the cutoff.
I checked my unofficial transcript and my BUS 405: Labor Relations course is listed on the transcript under "Test Credits Applied Toward Undergraduate Undeclared." The test credits are also listed under the Winter Quarter and Undergraduate sections of the transcript and are added to my two actual classes in the "Combined Cum GPA" lines. The tests are pass/fail, so the GPA is 0.00 for the test credits.
So, I think that this is as good as it can be, really. You'll just have to get your major changed to undergraduate undeclared. The big question, of course, is how these test credits transfer to other colleges. They aren't listed as challenge exams on the transcript, so that is a good thing.
I do also think that Rachel's idea of declaring minors might also be a good strategy, but why would they stop you from changing your major?
