Thanks, NJ, for going through this and sharing the info with the rest of us. For what it's worth - we really appreciate it. Having just finished two Aleks courses myself, it is so helpful to know what I can/should take next.thanks guys glad to help. I knocked out Beg & Inter Algebra with the initial assessments - woo hooo!! I must say the intermediate was pretty tricky but fortunately I got though it. I'm now working on College Algebra - initial assessment 48% and it would seem from the practice +2%, I have a long way to go. I echo others comment that it's a very hard course. And for some reason I can plot awesome graphs but word problems completely escape me. It's pretty sad to be honest. :-( Oh well, guess we all have our limitations. At least I am learning the material. ALEKS is a nice set up! I am very appreciative of all the information and feedback on the courses! Back to my studies - Hope everyone is enjoying the Holiday!! Such a nice time with family/friends and yummy desserts!! I LOVE Pie! :-))) Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - bricabrac - 11-26-2009 Hello, Can someone please explain how the assessments work? As I am adding to the pie does ALEKS just add the yellow to the existing blue section or do I need to take the full assessment again? This is the part that is confusing. Are you tested back to the initial assessment (even if you've already mastered sections) or only the stuff learned since that point and the remaining questions either wrong or not answered? If it keeps resetting back to the beginning what a pain in the neck that would be. Trying to get a feel for this before requesting an assessment. Thanks in advance! Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - peace123 - 11-26-2009 Ok, if I remember correctly, the blue is the amount you got from the assessment, then it adds on a green section for the new sections you complete, until you take another assessment, then it recalculates the blue section based on the new assessment. In the new assessment it can ask you questions on areas you have already mastered. The goal is to get the blue to be a 70% or above. Hope that helps. blue = assessed amount ( this can go up and down) green = progress in learning mode yellow = still to learn Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - nj593 - 11-26-2009 In order to get credit you need to assess at 70%. You cant pass say in example with a 45% then do the pie to get up to 70%. Atleast that is the way the guy told me. So what i did was i kept taking the assessments over and over and over till i would get the idea and format down. Then take the tests again till i passed. If you dont clearly know an area then the pies are useful. Otherwise the pie is a long haul. Again you might be able to pass with a 70% with the pie included into the score. But again i didnt go that route because it takes forever. Someone here told me that they were on their 250th hour. Thats an insane amount of time to put in when looking for credits. For that much studying you could take the clep or dsst exam. hope this helps. bricabrac Wrote:Hello, Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - bricabrac - 11-26-2009 Hi Peace, Yes, it explains perfectily...although I might add - Darn! I hoped this was not the way it worked. So I could very well lose the ground gained by the intial assessment. At least I now know what I have to do--crank it out so this is complete asap! I don't have the brain power to retain all this math stuff while taking courses and studying for upcoming CLEP & DSST. Too much all at once. Hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving Day! peace123 Wrote:Ok, if I remember correctly, the blue is the amount you got from the assessment, then it adds on a green section for the new sections you complete, until you take another assessment, then it recalculates the blue section based on the new assessment. Remember you can request a new assessment at anytime and can even do multiple assessments in a row. I had a very peaceful Thanksgiving. I hope yours was nice too. Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - bricabrac - 11-26-2009 Hi NJ, Ok, thanks for the added info! As I replied to Peace, I need to finish this asap (in the next day or so...). Unfortunately, I do not have the time to spend on this one math course, to many other coals in the fire. I will admit I was not prepared for the depth of the exam. Much harder than I thought it would be. Hope you had an wonderful Thanksgiving Day! nj593 Wrote:In order to get credit you need to assess at 70%. Other thing i did was printed out the entire test i took. Of course them knuckle heads change the test on the turn around but it gave me the idea. So yes, it helps! By the way Peace congrats on your finishing your degree. I read in another post somewhere that you are finishing if Im not mistaken. Hope you will stick around the forum even though you are finishing.
