Thanks Marianne! That is good to know. My degree will be conferrred June 18th which is too long to wait to meet the deadlines for the ceremony. I'll have to ask EC about it.
Yes, please let us know what your plans will be. I hope you will get to go, but I understand that taking care of your health is a lot more important.

Congratulations to all the folks who have finished your degree and planning to go for the commencement. I will say DO WHATEVER YOU POSSIBLY CAN TO GO AND YOU WON'T REGRET YOU DID. The commencement was great and well organized-- 3 days of activities. If you have time, make sure you joined everything, starting with coffee party the night before the commencement and attending the Alumni meeting the day after the commencement.
I had my own graduation in 2006, and living in Japan, had to fly 16hrs to New York from for it. You guys all deserve to wear the gown proudly as you have all worked dearly for it!! Every graduates will be called to the stage and receiving your diploma from President Ebersole. I enjoyed mine, as over 500 graduates were there.
Once again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I thought I could, but now don't think I can do it financially. I lost a lot of money over the past two months as I took care of my mother instead of working a lot. I also just moved to a new city and am self-employed so have to build my clientele. I am so super bummed out...

So sorry to hear this Anastasia! I hope your mom is doing well now. I hope you will do something special to celebrate your graduation on that day anyway. I also hope that you will get to go to your graduation ceremony for your master's degree.
For some reason as we get closer, it seems to be getting harder to get everything together to go. Thanks Obediran for the encouragement! As I have already said many times, I do hope that some of us will get to go and enjoy our graduation event.

As my financial situation stood before, I could do it. There was also the possibility of combining the trip with a trip to NYC and Washington DC to visit friends and to do some organizing work for some folks out there which would have actually brought me money to pay for the trip while I vacationed!
Now I've been calculating plane and hotel fares, and the costs add up pretty fast. I'm still in denial and don't want to believe I can't go yet because I missed my high school graduation (I graduated early at 16 and left the state), and of course, I only did a few years of college back in the 80's.
I really want to go, will continue to check plane fares, but it is not looking too hopeful at the moment. I have to prioritize things. I'm still physically and emotionally exhausted from taking care of my mother - who is in her 80's and had a fall and ended up in the hospital with a small fracture in her back. I was full-time caregiver while she went through rehab until recently when I found someone to hire for her to take over until she can take care of herself again....

I won't be able to do, as my surgery is scheduled for June 30th. Try checking into alternate airports, as I have found in the past smaller airlines and smaller regional airports cost half or less of flying a larger carrier into a more major airport. Just a thought to try to help you figure out a way to go. I wish I could be there, but my son now wants to get his AS degree this way and hopes to have it done by next summer. If he makes it we will both graduate next July and that I would go back for, so mother and son can both graduate at the same time. We will see what happens. I will be thinking of you all in July and sending warm fuzzies your way! Congrats everyone and celebrate however you can...you deserve it!

Marianne - I'm disappointed that I won't have the chance to meet you, but that sounds like a wonderful plan for you and your family. It will be so great to get to share the celebration with your son! Plus it will give you plenty of time to heal and finish your degree. Let him know that we will be happy to help him with school, if he needs anything. We'll also be praying for your quick recovery!

I'm too disappointed for words. I just went from zero on the credit card to a $4000 balcnce because of moving costs and paying my graduation fees, etc. Ouch. :-(

The big day is less than 2 weeks from now!
We seem to have a very large graduating class from this forum this year.
I know that some of you will not be able to go. Enjoy the celebrations that you create! Marianne, we'll be praying that your surgery goes well.
I will be going to the graduation ceremony. Will anyone else be getting to go?
