FEMA & FREE College Credit courses - sirjake - 05-22-2006 Thomas Edison just got around to listing my four FEMA credits... The last four general elective credits that I needed. So, assuming I passed Drug and Alcohol Abuse, I should have all the credits necessary to receive my degree. They accepted them with nothing more than my having FEMA send them my transcript. Thus, they were effectively four completely free credits. I didn't pay anything at all for them except for being enrolled at TESC. That's pretty cool. As soon as you receive the email, you can proceed (you don't have to wait for the certificate). It looked like 12 weeks on the website!! FEMA & FREE College Credit courses - snazzlefrag - 05-23-2006 ShotoJuku Wrote:OUTSTANDING!!! It looked like 12 weeks on the website!! Yeah! They say that to cover themselves. But you should receive your email within 24 hours, and your certificate within 2 weeks. That was my experience anyway. It's the email that is important. The certificate is literally just a computer generated little slip of paper, much like a receipt! You only need the email to proceed with the transfer of the credit to the FCC transcript (and $60 of course) hilarious FEMA & FREE College Credit courses - RBOWMAN - 05-23-2006 I actuaslly sent off to Fema to register and they said it all had to be done on line..so explain to me please, someone, how to get setup with taking a class, testing and then getting credit. I appreciate the help of anyone that can help me understand as God knows Iam Fema impaired! Thanks,Ron FEMA & FREE College Credit courses - sirjake - 05-23-2006 You don't need to register anything until you actually take a test. You just go to this web site: http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/crslist.asp On that page, they have the study materials, the link to take the test online, etc. Everything you need is there. All you do is download the study material, which includes the questions for the final exam. I went through and answered all of the questions in paper on the final exam, then went to the link where you actually take the exam. The questions for the final exam are not there. They just have the boxes where you enter the answers. You enter the answers, enter your information (SS number, address, etc.) and submit it. In about 24 hours, you receive a "congratulations, you passed" email. Then, in about a week, you get the actual certificate. After I had taken the four I needed, on FEMA's site, I had them send my transcript to TESC. One thing to note I did not need to have my FEMA credits go through Frederick Community College. I had FEMA send my transcript directly to Thomas Edison State College and they took the credits. Straight from FEMA. No community college middle man needed. I.e., no $60 per credit hour. TESC is awesome in that regard. Unfortunately, the same doesn't apply to Excelsior. They require the FEMA credits to be transcripted by an RA College prior to accepting the credits. If someone is only taking a few credits, FCC may be the best option at $60/credit. But if they intend to take a whole bunch, they should set up a credit bank at TESC. It costs $350 for up to 60 credits (I think) and new credits can continue to be added to the credit bank for up to one year. OK, got the email that only said: Dear Brian Fey: Congratulations! You have successfully passed the Independent Study Course "IS-00240" entitled "Leadership & Influence ".
