Please help check over my degree plan for TESU - sarg123 - 03-23-2017 I really don't know why I'm getting involved in something that is really not my problem, but for anyone who is reading this, I am a totally random person with no axe to grind, at all, but I think the study and SL courses are easier than cleps. I took about 10 cleps, and deliberately did not take some CLEP's (such as microeconomics). Each clep may be just one test, but none of the clep's are EASY - some are EASIER than others - and you do have to study quite a bit on your own to pass them. I never took a study course (I'm planning to in the future) but I paid for one month to help me out in a course, and I browsed through it. The format is really so much easier, and plus it's also cheaper. Please help check over my degree plan for TESU - Nixi - 03-23-2017 Ars457123 Wrote:Keep my fries warm, when you get the job. If you have a decision worth several thousand dollars. Make it based on this! Please help check over my degree plan for TESU - dfrecore - 03-23-2017 This whole thing is nuts. Again, I can't figure out why the anger. It's as if Ars457123 gets paid by how many people take CLEP exams or something. On my degree plans, I list MOST of the ways you can take courses/exams for each course. This includes CLEP's. I think I don't have Shmoop on there, because the list started to get too long. Hopefully, a Shmoop lover doesn't come on here and berate me for not including it in my plan! Sorry, Shmoopies, I'm not trying to dissuade you at all, I promise. My spreadsheet is only so big. I don't necessarily tell people that the A&I Lit exam is worth 6cr, because honestly, TESU has gone back and forth with it a couple of times (it was 6, then 3, now I guess it's back to 6), and I don't really keep up with that kind of thing. And, since I'm not as familiar with COSC and EC, and I have no idea what they give for credit for the A&I Lit exam, I just kind of put that out of my mind and figure people can look for themselves on the school websites what kind of credit they would get for the exam if they were interested. I'm more interested in course equivalencies at TESU, so that's what I pay attention to. I also have a hard time "recommending" a certain course/exam if I personally haven't taken it. I have absolutely no clue if A&I Lit is hard or easy, since I've never seen it. A lot of people say it's easy, and I do believe it was easy for them. Then others say that they thought it was difficult, and I believe them too. But really, I can only give feedback for the ones I've taken, and even then I give a caveat, because really a lot of what it is is based on life experience, ability to take tests, etc. I thought the CLEP Management and Marketing exams were easy, and passed them cold - but then, I've taken a bunch of Management courses in the past, so I don't necessarily think that everyone on Earth will think they're easy FOR THEM. It's really impossible for me to say. As for a foreign language, I can't imagine telling someone that they should learn a new language from scratch and then take a CLEP exam. I think there are easier, faster ways to earn that credit. But if they WANT to do that, by all means, go for it. That would be an awesome skill to have, to learn a language quickly and well enough to pass a college test for it. I really just don't get the anger. No one on here is obligated to answer any posts, no one is obligated to answer every part of the posts. I try to answer what I know, and figure others will answer what they know, there will be some nice back and forth, and then that will be another post with lots of good info for people. Not perfect info, but enough to do some checking and then make a plan for themselves. It is exactly what makes the forum a success! It's all about helping, not extreme hand-holding. Easiest vs. fastest vs. cheapest = all common topics of conversation here, and things may (and have) change(d) over time. What is best for each person is individualized, but I (as most) do tend to suggest what is working for me at this time *first*, and then give other suggestions if I think of it. Sorry, Shmoopies, I'm not trying to dissuade you at all, I promise. My spreadsheet is only so big. You don't make degree plans, you make incomplete, aborted nonsense. You above all others are misrepresenting the CLEP tests, you are giving out false information. Anyone reading this should not listen to you. dfrecore Wrote:I don't necessarily tell people that the A&I Lit exam is worth 6cr, because honestly, TESU has gone back and forth with it a couple of times (it was 6, then 3, now I guess it's back to 6), and I don't really keep up with that kind of thing. It doesn't matter about the other two since it says right in the title of this thread 'TESU'. It's really impossible for me to say. Pay attention here to this wording- do you see the poor attempt at maneuvering? I never asked for a recommendation. This all began because I wrote the OP- NOT Dfrecore, and NOT jsd- and mentioned that they give more credit for CLEP and then came this poster's failed attempt to scold me for it because it included some language courses. This is what this person means by "recommending" Unbelievable! I never asked for any feedback from this person for a certain course. In fact I've been sending people to the Specific Exam Feedback section for a while now, in order to get good advice. As for "Everyone on Earth" now we know why this person hates A&I lit so much. The more people who take it, the more people who can recognize which fallacy this is! dfrecore Wrote:As for a foreign language, I can't imagine telling someone that they should learn a new language from scratch and then take a CLEP exam. The implication here is I suggested this person should tell people to do this or that I'm telling people to learn a foreign language. For the memory impaired, here is what I wrote: "You're absolutely right about one thing, though. How DARE I suggest that anyone take a foreign Language CLEP! Since you personally have determined that's it's hard, no one should ever be offered it, regardless of that individual's history. Just more nonsense from you. I remember when this board was excited over the NYU language tests; standards have fallen. BTW, since, more people are taking longer to finish(70 credits in a year for someone with a full time job is slow) They could learn the language from zero and still get those nine credits." and: "And jsd, you deliberately left out the part where I said that people starting from zero could take a language test, if they want to. It's not up to you to deem it inappropriate or not! " For those of you wondering how the 'suggest' turned to 'telling' well it's part of a pattern of behavior. The 'suggestion' was a single link to TESU's CLEP page, keep in mind. dfrecore Wrote:I really just don't get the anger. People who see people giving out info over and over that interferes with the education of multiple people and can feel nothing may be sociopathic. People spend a lot of money, and when dfrecore answers only part of what he/she feels obligated to and the OP walks away thinking that they got a comprehensive degree plan then that's a problem. Not just this OP, but others, its been happening a lot. When a poster specifically asks for speed and posters don't bother to point out where classes could be lessened, but instead concern troll the posters who do- that's a really big problem. I want everyone to know that this NOT the case. The idea that you should only take CLEP if you already know the material is an outright lie. Not a difference of opinion, not based on " you could spend weeks studying" not ANYTHING of the sort. The idea that you're either passing tests cold, or you're spending weeks studying is false. This person will whine and say something like- I said you could spend weeks studying for it- but how likely is that? Long on to the Specific Exam Feedback section to see that studying multiple weeks is NOT the norm. Most people there study in about a week, some less. Of course, that Study.com and Straighterline could also take weeks is NEVER mentioned! Please help check over my degree plan for TESU - Ars457123 - 03-24-2017 Also, I'm waiting for someone to tell me how someone with 'test-phobia' would be better served by these options that include MORE quizzes, and tests, plus mid-terms. Some of which focus not on concepts, but rather tedious, irrelevant nitpicking. Some of which focus not on concepts, but rather tedious, irrelevant nitpicking. Because your overall grade will not only rely on the final test. If my entire grade depends on one test only, I would get anxious knowing that if screw this one up, I've screwed everything (Of course you can re-test, but same problem). Take for exemple a standard study.com course: You can get 50/150 points, just by doing the quizzes, minutes after learning the lesson. Yes, it's tideous and can be long. But for some people, it works. For me, it works. Does it work for everyone? No, but for some people who get anxious by one test defining your entire grade, it is a solution. And if they/we want to more quizzes/more tests and more mid-terms, that's our choice. |
