Shmoop Literature Courses Overview - jsd - 01-19-2017 I read somewhere that when a class comes in they check it against an internal database of known classes, if it's new they evaluate it and then add it into the database for future students. Not sure how accurate this is, and I can't seem to track it down. Doesn't seem to account for some of the discrepancies we occasionally see. Shmoop Literature Courses Overview - KayV - 01-19-2017 Point out these courses. The overarching theme is that they are all upper level and feature at least some overlap. Post-Modernist Literature, of course, is the next literary period. I begin to suspect that the evaluators did not even realize that Modernism does not mean modern literature, but rather the literature of ca. 1850-1950. That syllabus does not look like an intro course to say the least. Modern Poetry (ENG-345) 3.00 s.h. Significant modern poets in America and Great Britain, such as Eliot, Frost, Moore, Williams, Yeats, Hopkins, Housman, Auden, Thomas, and others. Major British Writers (ENG-348) 3.00 s.h. A survey of the poetry, fiction, and drama of England from the romantic period to the present, with particular attention to such writers as Blake, Wordsworth, Tennyson, Browning, the Brontes, Hardy, Yeats, Eliot, Joyce, and Woolf. Twentieth Century African American Novel (LIT-337) 3.00 s.h. Explores selected fictional works that were written between 1912 and 1984 by some major African-American writers. emphasizes the development, diversity, and quality of African-American literature. [Hughes, Baldwin, Hurston, et al.] Women Novelists of the 20th Century (ENG-386) 3.00 s.h. Major prose, poetry, and drama by British and American women writers of the twentieth century. Victorian Literature (ENG-369) 3.00 s.h. Readings in some of the major authors--poets, novelists, and essayists--of the Victorian period, including Eliot, Dickens, Conrad, Browning, Tennyson and others. Post-Modernism Literature (ENG-479) 3.00 s.h. A survey of the texts and cultural events associated with post-modernism literature. Can each advisor just do whatever they want with these courses until its written down somewhere? It seems to stick fairly well, although it will be more sure once these are actually transferred in rather than just planned and once a couple of people report getting the same equivalencies. If it didn't, we wouldn't be able to continue to carry as much common wisdom on the subject as we do. Shmoop Literature Courses Overview - alleycat - 01-24-2017 Any word on Modernist Lit yet? Shmoop Literature Courses Overview - Notgodot - 01-31-2017 The moment we've all been waiting for: British Lit = Lit 208 English Lit 1 Intro to Poetry = Eng 246 Poetry 1 Western Lit = Lit 202 Literary Roots of Western Culture Bible as Lit = Lit 242 Biblical Lit 1 Drugs in Lit = EITHER Lit 299 OR Lit 399 Special Topics in Lit Modernist Lit = EITHER Lit 299 OR Lit 399 Special Topics in Lit Holocaust Lit = Eng 301 The Holocaust Shakespeare's Plays = Lit 320 Shakespeare 1 Women's Lit = Lit 323 Women in Lit Lit in the Media = Lit 430 Literature & the Media Not quite sure about the whole drugs in Lit/modernist lit transfer, as to which is which. In a sensible world the Modernist Lit course is the upper level one, and Drugs in Lit came in at 299. In any case, that's five upper level courses right there, folks! If I could find an online nonwestern lit course, I could get an English degree ![]() Shmoop Literature Courses Overview - jsd - 01-31-2017 Awesome! Thanks so much for being the guinea pig. These are some great options. I'm surprised it's so hard to find a non-western lit course anywhere Shmoop Literature Courses Overview - dfrecore - 01-31-2017 Thanks for those! I love being able to update my spreadsheet! Now, if we could get someone to go through and do all those math courses. I want a review of them, as well as to know how TESU brings them in. Shmoop Literature Courses Overview - davewill - 01-31-2017 KayV put me on to these two: Quote:and from UTexas self-pace independent study ($550/ course): The first one should do for non-western Lit. Not cheap, but cheaper than TESU. Shmoop Literature Courses Overview - Mamasaphire - 01-31-2017 Notgodot Wrote:The moment we've all been waiting for: That's great! Thanks for sharing! |
