My intent was a truthful representation of my WGU experience....if it helps you decide WGU isn't for you that's great! I discovered it was right for me.

rebel100 Wrote:Duck Dynasty!!! Did you know that the Dad. Phil?, was the starting Quarterback at Louisiana Tech...his backup...backup now...was Terry Bradshaw! Dude opted out of the NFL so he could stay in La. Hunt and raise a family...cool story.

I should not be a Downton Abby fan...but I'm drawn to that stupid show. There's no valid explanation.

I know who Phil is. As a matter of fact, we nicknamed one of my friends (who only shows his face around duck season) "Phil" because one year he tuned his own call and was sooo proud (but is sounded horrible). Another friend "traded" him a $150 Zink call just so he wouldn't use the "tuned" one. I did not know that about the "real Phil." Cool story.

As for Downton, I have to admit I like shows with historical aspects and period dress.

You know I Have to add something about the WGU MBA. I work in a 177 bed Hospital. There are about 1600 employees here, I know of 8 people currently pursuing either the MBA or MSN through WGU. No other school, even the local University of Central Florida (2nd or 3rd largest school in the country), has that many of our employees currently pursuing a degree at the Masters level. We are becoming something of a click. A 9th student, a middle manager here at the hospital just signed up this month...Our new EVS Director who came from Texas was encouraged by his former employer to attend WGu for his MBA, in fact he called today and WGU still has his info from 2011 and they are welcoming him back.

I may end up with a better contact base through WGU than if I had done the executive cohort at UCF....and the UCF Executive MBA is almost $50K.

Yeah....I'm cool with WGU.

I need to go get some work done Smile

Duck Dynasty... I'm nuts for those people! Si just CRACKS me UP..... HEY! He just takes his pistol out and starts shooting at any old thang, any time he feels like it. What a hoot. As for Dexter, I'll put it this way... I just got real tired of his serial-killin' ways. Downton... I can't care about those people... they bore me. HOMELAND... now THERE's a show. LOVE Damien Lewis....

I checked into the WGU site and read some things about it. It looks good and the cost is really reasonable. Being in CT, I never heard of it before I saw your posts. Around here, people are really stuck on B&M schools as being the only "legitimate" schools and everything else is "Oh, you did an online degree? Oh, Ummm, OK". I have 7 more DSST and ECE's plus the Capstone to finish at Charter Oak then I am going to look seriously at WGU. I was planning on using CLEP/DSST to save money on my Bachelor's figuring if I have to take out loans, I would rather be paying loans back on an MBA. I was seriously considering a couple different programs in the state but I am not sure how long I am going to stay here. The political climate in this state has destroyed business and most of the legislators are morons, so it is not going to change. So, I am thinking that doing a distance degree for my MBA would be the best option if I move (which I am considering more and more every day)

Hey Rebel, do you ever plan on pursing a graduate certificate? Or a certificate at a Florida University/College to have that "home bound" feeling on your resume? I know weird question (I noticed you live in FL), most likely I am setting my eyes on an MBA WGU. I mean in this economy (WGU MBA is a good bargain) and being non-profit it's a win-win for me. However I always wanted to do my masters at local university to get that home feeling on my resume, but the prices are outrages. I'm in South, Fla so FIU,UM,FAU... MBA's are quite expensive. But I was thinking maybe I can just get the WGU MBA and a local state university/college graduate certificate and/or certificate to make up for it. Obviously it comes down to personal preference, I am just wondering if you ever plan on pursing a certificate in the future?

I've thought about that Ace King, In fact I consider both the Florida angle and the National Universities.

My daughter is pursuing her ALB at Harvard Extension...that would be my first choice for a Post Bach Cert. They have several and require 20 credits...it would take a while though and I would have to find the money. http://www.extension.harvard.edu/degrees-certificates I like the Strategic Mngt. and Sustainability options...of course you would be exactly 1/2 way to a Masters at that point, You could just follow Cookderosa's model and go for the ALM! Smile

If I stay in Emergency Management (looking less and less likely) I may complete a 9 hour cert in EM from the University of West Florida. Their Master of Public Health program which the EM cert falls under carries CEPH accreditation (the highest in the industry) and they are a Florida school...all big pluses. Costs aren't crazy either, I can do the whole cert for about $3K, 4K for a 12 hour cert. UWF - Online Campus - Certificates The cert also counts towards the MPH if you choose to pursue it.

Regardless of who you root for it's hard to deny the attraction of a University of Florida connection. The Gators are the state's flagship school and it has international recognition. Non-Degree Certificates - Distance Learning they are pricier but it's UF!

I like the ecornell certs (surprisingly affordable) Business, Hospitality and Human Resources Training | eCornell
Quite a bit more expensive, but I like the Notre Dame options as well Executive Certificate | Online Business Courses | Notre Dame Online
Note that many or the Cornell and ND certs are just that....certs, which carry no formal credit. This matters less at the Masters level though as most programs limit you to 6 transfer credits anyway.

I may yet go back to the MAIS at Western New Mexico University. I could pick up 18 credits each in Writing and History with an eye towards being able to teach EM, Business, History, or Writing as a retirement job at a CC somewhere...assuming everyone isn't online by then! Smile
