FYI, if a course is recommended for credit by ACE or NCCRS, and it doesn't come from Shmoop, it is nearly guaranteed to be accepted by TESU, or any of the big 3 for that matter.
Academic advising will only recommend their own courses and will generally only recognize courses that are part of an official transfer/articulation agreement with an established course equivalency. But TESU will accept pretty much anything... it just may take a bit of time for them to evaluate a course if it is something they haven't seen before.

Where did you get that idea, advising again? Those guys really shouldn't drink and plan.
I'm guessing he was told Intro to Psychology wouldn't work for that requirement in his Psych degree, which is probably true given that the class is only 2 credits and the requirement is 3. As much as I can't stand TESU advising, I think this one there's a chance they may have not been totally coming out of left field with this one.

TESU will usually accept a 2 credit course to meet requirements even if the course is normally 3 credits. For example, there are two places on my degree plan which have requirements for 3 credit courses that were met with 2 credit courses. They just bumped my elective requirements to make up the balance.

I was under the impression that they would only do this for Gen Ed requirements (and maybe business core, I'm not a BSBA guy so not really sure), but not for Area of Study. But could be mistaken, I've never asked directly. I have the exception in place for Ethics but other than that I haven't taken any 2-credit courses.

I have two, 2-credit TEEX courses in my AOS. As long as the total s.h. in the AOS meets or exceeds the requirement, and any specific requirements are met, they usually accommodate what you have.

So I was told today that BYU's Independent Study PSY-350 Social Psychology class will duplicate with Study.com's Psychology 104: Social Psychology. I still don't know if that means TESU considers the BYU course lower-level, or if they have somehow decided that upper-level classes can duplicate lower-level classes, but this is quite frustrating.

I don't think that having UL and LL courses be considered duplicates is unusual. For example, if I took Calc III at a community college, it would come in as LL. I would not expect to get double credit if I then took TESU's Calc III that's UL. I would expect to receive UL credit, though.

It's wholly inconsistent with every other policy on duplicate courses TESU has. You can take two different Vietnam War courses.Or Civil War courses. Or Operating Systems courses. Or Computer Concepts courses.
If they're going to require 6 credits, they need to allow you to transfer two courses towards that requirement without duplication. I understand there will be some options that will duplicate, because they will transfer as the same thing, but when TESU has at least 4 different course codes for Social Psychology, there's got to be a combination of UL and LL

You can take two different Social Pscyh classes (See SdC's two SocPsych courses), but if the content overlaps significantly like davewill points out, then it makes sense that they duplicate. Like he said, it's more important to determine if they're giving UL for BYU.

Yeah, I guess my main frustration (which my other, expressed, frustration stems from) is that they won't give me an answer on whether they'll count the BYU course as UL or not. I initially emailed advising asking to add the BYU course to my plan and see if it's UL, and five emails later they seem to have no interest in answering the question, instead preferring to tell me about duplication that I didn't ask about and give me a sales pitch for taking the course at TESU.
Honestly, I'm not too worried about the two duplicating because I have other options in mind as backups (which I told them from the start, hoping it would expedite the process of getting an answer to my actual question - nope.) I could take the other Study.com course, I could take it from Coopersmith, I could take it from ed4credit, I could maybe even take Social Psychology of Justice from OhioU (that's the one I was most concerned about duplicating since both *should* be UL), I could even pony up for the ePack from TESU. But it all revolves around whether the BYU course is UL or LL and they don't seem interested in answering that question.
And you can't tell me that overlapping content is the criterion for duplication when they accept both Vietnam War courses from Study.com. If you do the UL one you have ONE quiz left in the LL one.
