I am really torn between trying to teach myself statistics and take the Dantes test or go through the "ALEKS" process. I almost think that ALEKS would be faster for me. I agree with Wendy. It's like putting the studying in for the DSST, but at the end you don't have to sit for the test. ![]() Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - jadechow - 03-12-2009 annegirl Wrote:I agree with Wendy. Plus from reading through this whole thread last night (wow, there's 2 hours I could have spent on the ALEKS website!), I am excited about the prospect of maybe doing the other 2 statistics modules and getting 9 credits total. Do ya think I put the cart before the horse much??? : ![]() Seriously, thanks so much for the advice. I sincerely appreciate it. I took Beg Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, and Intro to Statistics. Last login: 03/12/2009 Enroll date: 02/17/2009 Total Hours: 158.7 Less than one month and 12 credits for $20 plus ace fee of $40. ( i forgot to mention and the pencil lead and paper) Boy I could sure use more of this. I was at 62% then 64% and couldnt get past 64. Took 2 assessments ans still 64 so I took vacation for the next 4 days from work so I could focus and finish the course. I worked on it all day and about an hour ago got the "Assessment". So went to the kitchen got a coke and a good attitude and decided even if I only made it to 66 at least it wouldnt be 64. Well I was extremely careful and did each calculation twice just to make sure I had the right answer and low and behold 78%. LOL now what am I going to do with the rest of my time off. Oh I know - Start Macreconomics on straighterline. Doesn't that sound like fun. Boy thanks to this forum I think I am going to be able to get my degree. ![]() Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - derek10rr3 - 03-12-2009 MomOf2 Wrote:OK i just have to say that wasn't so bad!!! Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - cookderosa - 03-13-2009 I just found out tonight that I need College Algebra and Statistics as pre-reqs for the BSN program I am looking at. (crap) Anyway, I am going to try and figure out a way to do it through ALEKS. I already called TESC, and they won't let me add anything to my old transcript- they want me to open a credit bank (not happening) so I'm not really sure if I'll be able to use ALEKS or not. I know it's ACE evaluated- but not everyone is so cut-and-dry when accepting credit. If you have suggestions, or have applied ALEKS credit to anywhere besides the big 3 I'd love to hear about it. I've put in 54 hrs plus a lot more coffee than I like to drink on Irtroduction to Statistics alone. I haven't reached the magic 70% yet. Plus I used all the advice on this thread. I printed everything out like farmerboy suggested and I'm using a statistics calculator. I quess it just takes some people longer to grasp new complicated concepts. I want to get my 3 credit hours of Aleks Intro Statistics soon because I'm worried tesc may decide to stop accepting Aleks statistics and make me take a proctored test. Anyway from experience I know you did a GREAT job if you managed to finish 3 Aleks classes. MomOf2 Wrote:OK i just have to say that wasn't so bad!!! Which school are you sending these courses too, and which degree are you pursuing? I have enrolled at EC and am pursuing BGB. I have worked in accounting for well over 20 years and have worked my way up to controller. The company i currently work for never required me to have a degree because of my experience. Their policy was education/experience equivalent. Great company to work for. Well they have now decided to close all the regional offices and move them to the corporate headquarters in Denver. They are offering to relocate me to Denver, but they require a degree now for any of the positions I am interested in. If I can get this done over the next six months that is acceptable so I am spending every waking moment on school. I have 39 hours transferring in from previous course work and now with theses and the EC Info Lit I finished last night, I am at 52 hours (almost half way there). In light of this, I have a very short timeline to get my degree. So long story short - I have some serious motivation behind me. Thanks for the encouragement.
