RE: UpGrad DBA Golden Gate U - 70% scholarships for 5,000 students - Harry101 - 09-12-2022 I would be very careful what you purchased from Upgrad. You should check it with a representative from University Grant's Commission does Upgrad have a license for the said program , or does these degree pass the Ministry of Education verification process in India. You see the programs are conducted by Upgrad staff, you could say it is outsourced. This is a recent notice by the UGC; https://ibb.co/92sRkSs regarding online programs, but as i said you need to check if the said degree program is verified in India. Upgrad provides no refunds once you enroll with them. I know i have been vocal about their second DBA program from SSBM Geneva that is not accredited back in Swiss and the news media in Swiss reporting on these type of Business "schools" ; https://www.rts.ch/info/regions/geneve/13238587-a-geneve-des-universites-privees-vendent-tres-cher-des-titres-pas-reconnus-en-suisse.html So i urge you to be sure about this degree program. Getting an answer from UGC is really hard. What i can tell is that the education systems in India does not support DBA's; https://deb.ugc.ac.in link for Distance Education Bureau | UGC https://www.ugc.ac.in main UGC website ..this is the https://www.ugc.ac.in/pdfnews/5156905_UGC-Public-Notice-DEB.pdf ..part of the website RE: UpGrad DBA Golden Gate U - 70% scholarships for 5,000 students - collegecareerstudent - 09-12-2022 Wow- okay- so I literally wasn't notified up until today that I got all of these responses. Let me address everyone's comments. First and foremost, I'm American, but I'm living and working in Beijing. I've been here since 2019, hence why I was able to enroll in the program. There is no FAFSA needed, but I hate student loans anyway and try to pay with cash whenever I can. I haven't had a student loan thus far, but we will see. I doubt any LLM credits will apply to a JD. I'd simply apply to the JD directly, unless you already have one and are seeking a LLM to branch into another law specialty or you are a Paralegal looking to get a pay raise. As far as India goes, I'm not from India, so it doesn't really apply to me. I Googled Golden Gate University and Upgrad together, and it appears as though GGU itself approves the program and makes it clear they have a partnership with UpGrad. All online degrees offered by non-Indian unis are not recognized by UGC. Nothing specific to those offered on UpGrad. As far as that public notice PDF is concerned, UGC has no jurisdiction over GGU and their relationship with UpGrad. UpGrad's licensing, or lack of, is irrelevant because they're just a platform that universities parter with - no different from Coursera offering a variety of degrees from unis all over the world. GGU being a regionally accredited institution is the only thing that matters. I do wonder what UGC thinks about Coursera offering BS in CS from BITS Pilani. While DBA's are nearly non-existent in India, there is one (online) DBA program offered by an Indian institute: https://www.spjain.org/programs/doctorate-business-administration RE: UpGrad DBA Golden Gate U - 70% scholarships for 5,000 students - MrPanda - 09-12-2022 (09-12-2022, 08:44 AM)Pikachu Wrote:(09-12-2022, 03:33 AM)Harry101 Wrote: I would be very careful what you purchased from Upgrad. SP Jain´s DBA is USD$ 25,960 and you get an Australian degree. https://www.spjain.org/programs/doctorate-business-administration/fees Maybe it would be useful for some people, but I think that we found some French based DBA programs that were around the same price. RE: UpGrad DBA Golden Gate U - 70% scholarships for 5,000 students - MrPanda - 09-12-2022 I don´t see why UGC (Indian authorities) would have to "verify" GGU degrees (US degrees) offered through UpGrad. Maybe it´s being mentioned because the advertising seems to be directed mostly to people from India? RE: UpGrad DBA Golden Gate U - 70% scholarships for 5,000 students - bjcheung77 - 09-12-2022 Upgrad is an Indian corporation in the EduTech industry, their target market right now is mainly India and always trying to expand that internationally. Online learning options are readily available, they're using learning systems to reach a greater audience... RE: UpGrad DBA Golden Gate U - 70% scholarships for 5,000 students - Harry101 - 09-13-2022 Hm, lets try it like this. Can you explain to me how does a degree that costs around 65k-70k $ in the US . Get's sold by an Indian education company for 12k $ ? RE: UpGrad DBA Golden Gate U - 70% scholarships for 5,000 students - collegecareerstudent - 09-13-2022 Partnerships. I don't understand why this is confusing. EdX and Coursera have similar partnerships all of the time. But i would still like to hear your reasoning how does a DBA from US 65k worth get sold by an Indian company for 12k. For that they are taking a sum that is profitable for them of the cash. Upgrad is taking some % and paying their "adjuncts" and delivering the course using wage arbitrage from India where the labour for the IT side, program development side and instructor side is around 10% of the states. So, a 65-70k degree if it costs 60k to deliver in states costs 6k in India. Charge 12-20K for the class and the margin and net dollars are actually better for everyone except the workers than normal US classes. If Upgrad is doing enough to satisfy the partners accrediation bodies in the long run, we shall see. Meanwhile, if so inclined, there is a window for people to get a degree at a great discount from recognized schools. If I wasn't not inclined to be doing a DBA for the next 3 yrs versus the 2 or hopefully 18 months at South college, I would be starting this program instead of south college's DBA in Oct. But gonna roll the dice I can accellerate thru the SC DBA |
