COSC and my existential crisis.... - videogamesrock - 02-11-2017 Eventhough Parkersburg is a different school than WVU, 99.7% of the population will think Mountaineers. Plus their school swag sold at the Parkersburg online bookstore has the same logo and some say mountaineers. It really boils down to what makes you happy. Their sister campus WVU tech has more flexible RBA AoE's. Tuition is $297 a credit COSC and my existential crisis.... - dfrecore - 02-12-2017 boalex207 Wrote:I appreciate the condescension shown by both of you in your remarks, but I don't see where wanting to be able to attend a football game at my alma mater is so ridiculous. Literally, a few million people on fall Saturday afternoons attend football games at college campuses across the country. Because you have no interest in it, doesn't mean plenty of other people don't. Additionally, I don't see where it's so odd or wrong to wish to have some sort of non-academic ties to your school. Seems pretty rational to me to want be able to catch a sporting event, or a play, or a homecoming festival at the school where you graduated. Sorry to have offended, but you said you were having an existential crisis. I guess if everyone you ask just agrees with your determination, then you won't have a crisis anymore, because you've surrounded yourself with Yes Men. But since you asked, I gave my opinion - I just thought that it was a silly reason to choose a school. Obviously, you will choose not to take my advice, but at least you have some opinions from people who don't agree with you. If everyone in my life just agreed with me, no matter how silly my reasoning, I would get some new people in my life who did NOT agree with me all of the time. I want to be challenged and argued with sometimes. I know with 100% certainty that I make mistakes or don't use good reasoning to come to a conclusion. If just one person questions my decision-making, then I am thankful for that, because I will have to think harder about why I'm making my decision. I ultimately may not agree with them or take their advice, but I WILL listen and think more because of what they say. COSC and my existential crisis.... - videogamesrock - 02-12-2017 I say do what makes you happy. If graduating from WVU and being able to go to the annual football games as an alum makes you happy, knock the remaining 7 courses out and be happy. Maybe take some writing courses that you can apply toward a capstone and graduate at COSC simultaneously. COSC and my existential crisis.... - ndelco - 02-12-2017 I will say, as lame as it may sound, that I considered taking a course from a big-time school just so I could say they were my alma mater haha. I also considered the AAS from WVU-Parkersburg for the same reason. Ultimately I decided I didn't want to spend any more money than necessary and opted for only TESU. One perk for me is that I am from NJ and I have a lot of family and friends still there. So some people will have at least heard of my alma mater. Also, when I began researching TESU the name had just changed. A lot of things I read said TESC and I was not thrilled about attending a school that did not have the "U" in the name. That is one of the reasons I chose TESU over COSC. I know it's probably superficial and there are some great colleges that aren't universities, but it mattered to me. COSC and my existential crisis.... - Kgaul - 02-12-2017 I did not have a chance to read through this entire thread but in this forum we are not "typical" students. Things that draw others to colleges may not draw this specific crowd. We are not the mainstream norm COSC and my existential crisis.... - 12save - 02-13-2017 I would rather be 1/2 way to a masters degree than just finishing a bachelors degree and have spent the same amount of $$$. You can still go to the football games whether or not you are an alumni and cheer them on (actually it looks like you already have an AA from West Virginia University, so that box is already ticked). Is your degree to get a promotion for a current employer or is it to look for positions with new employers? If you are working towards a promotion w/ your current employer, the college/university is not likely to matter. However, if you are going to hit the job market w/ your new degree, I would look at which school is more local to you geographically and so more recognizable. I have a BA from a school which is now closed. It was regionally accredited when I attended it, but the school is no longer. I am 52 and currently in an online MA program at Fort Hays State University. I need an RA MA to teach lower division general ed courses at a satellite campus of a private college. My goal was the least units for the degree at the lowest cost. I just need to tick a box for an employer waiting to hire me. |
