Hey, I've been quietly lurking on this site since I started Psychology with SL not too long ago.
I'm about to finish up the course, and I wasn't exactly thrilled when I read this and found out that my final was going to be closed book! The final is 50% of the grade, and I'm actually not sure if I'll be able to pass it without the book.
This is my first course with SL, and I was wondering if anyone knew if the questions on the final is taken from previous exams? The 'review' they provide is less than helpful.

Hey There,
My adviser insists that the Business Ethics final is closed book too. However, when I take it (hopefully later today) I am going to show the proctor the link mentioned earlier in this thread (that says it is open book) and see if they will honor that. I suggest you do the same.

I do not want to scare you, but I have to say that there were hardly few questions from quizzes repeated in the final. This is a closed book exam, Luckily my proctor allowed me to use the eTextbook I purchased from Chegg.com. May be you can also check with your proctor if they allow you to use the book. I just managed to get 69.74% which was rounded off to 70.

Good luck on the exam, and hopefully the proctor will honor it. Unfortunately, the link lists Psych as closed book, so it would do me no good.
I'm almost certain that it was listed as open book before, but I suppose there isn't much to do about it now. I'm just going to spend the weekend studying and hopefully get a high enough grade to pass.
To anyone who has taken the course before, or any similar courses: is the final made up of previous exam questions? I hope so because there are 200 previous questions. It would be much easier to study those exams instead of 600 pages of text.

Every SL course I took I saw repeat questions on the final exam from tests 3&4.
As for the whole closed book conundrum remember, it is always easier to ask for forgiveness rather then ask permission.

Do your best to memorize exams 3 and 4. And if you cannot, SL still allows one sheet of notes. For economics, history and civilization, I copied and pasted all the questions and answers into Microsoft Excel, I had 4 pages of notes total. For ease of find, I bold the answers and sorted the whole document into alphabetic order. My printer allows me to print 2 sheets into one paper, in landscape mode. I printed the document front and back. So all four sheets fitted into one sheet of paper, and very legible. You may have to mess around with the font/size of the text so you can print them clearly and won't have to scrunch your eyes.

I just finished ''chating'' with a SL advisor. I had asked her to confirm whether or not it is true that SL is gradually transforming towards a closed book exam policy and this is the response I got:

This is in-line with what the vast majority of higher ed. The exam was created to be taken as a closed book exam so it tests concepts from the course not minute detail.

Would BIO101 and BIO101L be considered the same for final purposes? Because I took the latter right before Thanksgiving and it was open book.

I took the SL Business Ethics exam today at 12:45 PM and was able to use the PDF/eTextbook. I told the ProctorU proctor that I had the PDF open, he search something and said okay, you can use it.

I second that. I took the SL Business Ethics exam today at 2:45 pm (finally--long story). I showed them the area where it says it is open book, and not only was I allowed to use the .PDF, but the hard copy as well (I bought that before getting the .PDF, but it was good to have both--I used them and got a 93 on the exam). Just FYI. Also, because I recently found out that I was only given credit for half the credits I thought I had (long story--different post) I have been doing a headlong dash ever since (well for me that is, not compared to most of you) to get as many credits knocked out as possible so I can still start my Capstone course at TESC in March. I think one more Straighterline course along with the other DSST/CLEPs I've just planned should do it. I sure hope Intro to Religion still has an open book final by next month when I'm ready to take it.
