a little WGU MBA review.... - valsacar - 02-04-2013 I'm doing the MS in Information Security and Assurance there, pretty much the same story (though many of mine have made it through on the first attempt). Trick is to go through your own paper with the rubric and make sure you hit everything, if you have a friend that could do it as well that tends to help a lot. I'm nearing the end of my second term, thought I was going to get it done in the first but stuff came up and I had to take some time off (best part of this program IMO). I have 2 courses left to do and then the capstone (thesis and oral defense) and I have 2 months if I want to finish this term... very doable. Most of my papers have been ~15 pages, cut out 3 for the title/toc/references and that leaves about 12 pages double spaced (so say 6 actual writing). Not too bad, and on par with what a friend of mine is doing at a B&M for a similar program. 3-4 such papers seems normal for most of the masters courses (though some are presentations and not papers, and the last task for each course is normally a bit bigger). I really love the "here's what you need to do, here's the supplies, let me know when your done or you need help" mentality of the school. a little WGU MBA review.... - alleycat - 02-04-2013 rebel100 Wrote:I submitted task1 of 2 in leadership on Friday. The WGU task stream fairies just passed task 1 on my first attempt. Hope I'm getting better at this, first task I've passed on the initial submission. Reb darling.....you are making the rest of us look lazy! Who can keep up with you? I feel like a complete non achiever. There is no prescribed length and my mentor tells me that papers can vary widely from student to student. He told me that he has seen one student meet the requirements first try with a 4 page paper that took multiple submissions and 30 pages from others. Mine typically run 6-10 pages double spaced, I typically add to that on revision...never take away anything, just pile more in there. a little WGU MBA review.... - trminyard - 02-05-2013 I was hoping that you would refer me. I am starting the MBA program soon and it would be nice to have my application fee waived. Thanks. My email is trminyard@yahoo.com. I have finished and submitted Task 2 in Leadership, that's the last one. It went in last Thursday, returned yesterday for light revision (I only gave one conflict resolution when the rubric called for 2, and I failed to clearly state the team goals...mea culpa). I have fixed it and expect to pass this round. I am still working on courses, but ran into a little WGU snag folks should know about. My 1st semester ends February 28, if I open any further courses and don't get them completed by the cut-off it gets recorded as "not passed". They will let me do it, but if anyone pulls my transcript it will appear as not passed as if I maybe failed it...to avoid that I won't be asking for any further courses to be open till March. So assuming leadership passes I will have acquired 11 competency units (credits) in 6 months taking about 2 months off in the middle of that. I will officially be 1/3 of the way done. I have all the study material and assignments for Finance, Social Responsibility, and Risk...I will try to have 1 or 2 of those ready for an early March submission....Finance looks as difficult as I have been hearing...not so much hard as it is unfamiliar. Reading balance sheets and deciphering accounting insufficiency is NOT a strength...then of course, that's the point right? ![]() Oh BTW....WGU has changed the referral offer, if I or another student refer you its a $45 discount, not a free application...still worthwhile, but not as great. Funny too that once I make the referral I get a $20 gift card to the WGU online gift shop...where it costs $8.50 to ship anything you buy...so the referral (for me) almost covers the cost of the cheapest t-shirt! LOL ....I'm still happy to do them, I like free t-shirts. Best, Reb a little WGU MBA review.... - rebel100 - 02-19-2013 And......Leadership is done. ![]() a little WGU MBA review.... - namwen - 02-19-2013 I am scheduled to start the Master of Entrepreneurship degree at Western Carolina University in the fall. Your review of WGU has me very much getting the itch. Can I pull it off before the fall? Hmmmm... |
